I don’t remember anyone taking Big Daddy Bowe to slick school. This disciple of Papa Smurf the great Eddie Futch who himself sparred with the great Joe Louis was a well schooled boxer puncher. Usyk is clearly the best of this era but we need to be circumspect as he is when we refer to other eras.
Bowe should be 3-0 up against Holyfield,I just can’t see Bowe from any of those trilogy fights losing to Usyk. I’d even fancy Holyfield from the trilogy to get a win over Usyk . To put it another way,Usyk is the best of this era but the two biggest wins of his career are Joshua and Fury,Bowe and Holyfield in all likelihood would have destroyed both of them .
That's because there is no or barely any slickness on Bowe's CV, let alone generational great southpaw slickness like Usyk who will simply not be there to be hit like all those plodders Bowe feasted on. I remember the much smaller Herbie Hide giving Bowe problems with his speed and movement (who for the record Bowe said was the hardest puncher he fought). Usyk is much more elusive, slick and better than Hide and unlike Hide he has an iron chin not a glass one. There's a reason why all these giants have tried and failed to defeat Usyk despite some being given multiple attempts: Speed kills and Usyk is too fast, too skilful, too slick, too elusive and too good for the slow footed Bowe and he wouldn't try walking him down like he did against Belly. He would use the ring, his exceptional footwork and lateral movement to outbox Bowe. And also he would not be 37 or a few weeks away from turning 38 in this hypothetical match up. He would be in his prime and even faster, slicker, and more elusive. Happy New Year, Brother Olu
Hide was a hard puncher a very hard puncher who Bowe destroyed. You know how highly I rate Usyk however to think he would just have his way with genuinely talented big men better than anything in this generation is fallacy. I tend to have a good view of how fights will play out and the Bowe/ Larry Holmes type won’t be optimum opponents for Usyk as you pay a real price. Holyfield as well Bowe bested so we have seen him deal with skilful fast talented Cruiserweights. Bowe has the attributes to deal with southpaws. I am looking at these fighters fighting peak versions of each other. Happy New Year.
Riddick Bowe in his best day from the 92' Holyfield fight is a truly completely different animal to Fury and AJ, and that Bowe would have knocked out both of these guys, even Tyson Fury's biggest fan (his dad) proudly admits that. What I don't like on here is that he is kind of seen as this big lump with power. Yes he was super heavy handed and powerful but he was also incredibly skilled for a man of his size, Manny Steward said that Bowe had the edge in the skill area to Lennox. If Chisora and Briedis can give Usyk headaches with their styles, I have no doubt that Riddick Bowe would have any problem bettering their efforts by some distance. Usyk hates taking a bodyshot, Bowe loves giving a bodyshot, Usyk hates taking a uppercut, Bowe loves giving a uppercut. This is an incredibly tall order for Usyk. I do see Uysk winning a couple of rounds there and there but Bowe (1992) is just too complete for Usyk and would get the late TKO or UD. However, I do give the edge to Usyk from 1995-96 against Bowe from the Golota fights as Bowe was a shell of the fighter from those 1992 days.
Usyk by decision. Bowe in the end would not be mentally strong enough to edge Usyk on actual fight night, eg. versus Golota x2, throwing belt to trash can.
Bowe, more accurately Prime Bowe that fought Holyfield! Other versions of Bowe are available but Usyk probably beats an unmotivated, lazy, poorly trained Riddick
I know Hide was a very hard puncher. I also know that in terms of punch resistance and slickness Hide is on the other end of the scale to Usyk Look what Vitali did to Hide compared to Bowe. Vitali had no issues whatsoever dealing with the smaller man's speed, movement and power. He got on the front foot, cut off the ring, either saw Hide's fast shots coming and evaded or blocked them, or took whichever ones did get through with ease and then dropped him the first time he landed semi clean with the right and then repeated the trick again shorty after with a grazing shot which knocked Hide as stiff as a board and had his eyes in separate orbit. You think Vitali could do that to Usyk? Hide hurt Bowe and had him looking very concerned and it took Bowe 6 rounds to get him out of there, he ain't getting Usyk out of there in 12 No it isn't a fallacy. It's an opinion and my opinion is that Usyk is simply too fast, slick, skilful, and elusive for him and tough enough to take whatever big shots Bowe manages to land clean when he is able to do so I'm talking prime versions too and I have to keep on reminding everyone that Usyk was four months shy of turning 35 going into the first AJ fight, became HW champion when he was past his prime and undisputed when he was 37, and as it currently stands now is the 9th oldest HW champion of all time, the 2nd oldest undisputed HW champion, the second oldest unified champion, and if he's still champ in 8 months time he will be the 5th oldest HW champion of all time and the oldest ever undisputed one. He became undisputed HW champion when he was past his prime on a deck stacked against him vs literal giants and the giants of today are athletic, fast, and skilled. People often say as Ali aged and got bigger he became slower and easier to hit. Er. hello. prime Usyk was much faster, more fluid, more agile, sharper, and with much quicker reflexes and reaction times than he has been for ages and it's plain to see but for some strange reason this gets ignored or people are for whatever reason blind to what is right in front of their eyes. I also have to remind them that Usyk has numerous different styles and that boxing on the backfoot and being elusive is as natural to him as hunting is for a cat. You picked AJ to KO Usyk not once, not twice, but three times, Olu
Bowe is one of my favorite fighters as I have yet to see a more complete fighter of his size, but I got Usyk UD. Too slick and mentally strong.
What's not true about it ? Elaborate. Are you saying it's not true that Bowe didn't have alot of issues vs Tubbs ? And that style wise Bowe didn't have issues when boxers gave him movement ? Or fought him on the outside ? Because that is true. Stylistically Usyk is a big problem for Bowe.
I have heard Usyk himself which shows the mark of the great man himself says Ali was the greatest. LWhen Ali came back in the 70’s having been robbed of his peak he still fought and defeated a murderous row of opponents with his speed of feet in particular diminished. Usyk fought AJ twice so the prediction is 2 times. You will note that I have never picked against him again because I know what I am seeing. As for Hide all that matters is Bowe cleaned his clock the way a big man is supposed. Yes Vitali did later but Bowe did that to the undefeated Hide and He also was the one=who defeated£ Holyfield when he was. Undefeated. Whilst we cannot say for definite as regards hypotheticals I am pretty confident Bowe is not a good match up necessarily for Usyk. in the hypotheticals I can tell you historically who I feel is difficult for Usyk to beat. Yes Usyk is versatile but the great ones tend to be.
