    Disagree.

Turn off the Ferdie Pacheco announcing. He keeps talking like Holmes has a right hand like Joe louis and he is going to land it at any moment. Trouble is when he finally did land, it didn't have much of an effect. But there's Ferdie talking like it's an early Tyson fight and we'd better pay attention.

And if the roles were reversed and it was Carl Williams as the long reigning champ and a novice 10 rounder in Homes is the challenger, who do you think gets the decision then?

I just watched this for the first time since 1986. Geez!!! When I typed 1986 it kind of shocked me. It’s been a while.

Watching both Holmes / Spinks fights kind of reminded me of Ali vs Jimmy Young. Anyway, I had Spinks winning 5 rounds in the rematch. If Holmes had any kind of left hook he could’ve hurt Spinks more. He clearly won though. Terrible decision.

I had Spinks winning both tbh, but I’ll rescore it soon.

Which rounds did you give to Holmes? Maybe I should watch it again.

Yes you've posted this thread multiple times I looked at the thread there was only like 8 members who posted in there. I know you had it for Spinks but that thread doesn't prove anything a majority had it for Holmes and consider it a bad decision.

The bigger man in Holmes was the aggressor bullied the smaller man in Spinks and landed all the effective stand out punches in the fight.

42 of the 46 sportwriters scored it for Holmes.

The problem with that is, what he said prior should have no bearing in the points result of the rematch.

But, but but.....humans being what we are, many were angry at him, of course.

I had him win by a point, 144-143. But as Joe Cortez himself told Ring Magazine after the fight, when you have one fighter win by one point only, you should not consider it a robbery if they give it to the other boxer.

    I counted 15-16 members.

Hopefully you're better at tallying rounds than you are posts by unique users. :D

Anyway, it's a contentious decision for sure, but some people have been known to score it for Spinks. I'm telling you I'm one of them.

You scored it for Holmes and I respect that.

That’s the problem with boxing though.

It’s not a tournament sport. It’s a business. The fight business. The torch must be passed. The decisions go the way of the torch. protecting an investment or future golden goose is the name of the game. It takes precedence over fair play. Always has done.
