Will Marvin ultimately beat the smaller man with his strength and skills,or will his confidence betray him, letting the Tiger to rip straight thru his metal-like body?
Tiger was great and this would be a close hard fought contest. Its just that Hagler is the wrong type of fighter to attack up close. Hagler it too powerful to try to overpower on the inside. The key with Hagler is to move and keep him at bay. IMO Hagler is just a slightly more skilled more complete boxer. Hagler close hard fought UD 12.
If Hagler sticks & moves like he did vs. Briscoe, he should be able to win. This content is protected
In his match vs Duran and Vito(first time),I believe he wasn't too confident of actually imposing his strength after seeing how skilled/tough they are as an enemy, that cost him a longer/harder match than what's it's supposed to be.
That's the way to beat Tiger. He was a very strong, very tough man with very ponderous footwork. He turned hard-nosed sluggers into seemingly fleet footed boxers after a few exchanges. If Hagler gets on his toes then he boxes on the outside all the way to a unanimous decision. If not he's in for a rough night.
"The smaller man"? Tiger was bigger than Hagler. That said, so long as Hagler keeps his head and boxes a clever fight, he ought to outpoint Tiger every time. In a slugfest I think Dick Tiger is too strong and too tough for Hagler. It's basically Tiger's superpower.
Strength wasn't and needn't be a deciding factor. Hagler was supremely confident in his boxing ability and demonstrated that by out-boxing both Vito and Duran. He'd do the same against Tiger (who, in this case, would be the 'bigger' man).
