Ingemar Johansson vs these Heavyweights

I think Lyle beats him, Ingo wasn't anymore dangerous than Shavers. In fact, Shavers was stronger and harder hitting. With Williams, depends on who lands the big one first. Same with Valdez

 

In top form I'd favor Ingo to stop Williams and Lyle and to decision Valdez.

 

He gets Ed Sanders-ed by all three. Ingo had a type he didn't like. These were all that type.

 

He beats Lyle. Way too predictable and easy to outbox.

Valdez is harder to predict as he wasn’t exactly the poster boy for consistency. Gun to my head I’ll take Ingo.

Williams was much harder to outbox than the other two (ask Machen and Terrell) and has a huge hand speed advantage the other two lack. I’d narrowly favor Williams. They may well need three fights to settle the score.

 

Agreed. A guy like Machen would wipe the floor with him.

 

Agreed, Ingo could never dream of beating the likes of Bob Stallings in his prime.

Shavers also did far against Quarry than a guy Ingo KTFO.

Ingo may not have had Shavers’ power (even so he still has a very powerful right in its own right, no pun intended), but he had an infinitely larger box of tools at his disposal, was a much better boxer and far more clever.

Shavers was stronger and harder hitting than the likes of Foreman (especially the version Lyle faced). Who won that one again?

 

Sure but Shavers also obliterated Norton and gave Holmes a close call. Also, I don't think Shavers was stronger than Foreman and he maybe hit harder with his right, but not by any crazy amount.

Lyle is the only one I don't think hes got a good chance of beating. I'd favor him against Valdes. Cleveland Williams might be better on paper but couldn't win the big fight while Ingo beat every opponent he fought. Got to pick Ingo though not easily.

I just don't see how he beats Lyle. Ingos not on Jimmy Youngs level nor is he nearly as durable. Ingo couldn't handle Pattersons power and Patterson was one of those guys who had knockdown power not knockout power.

Personally I think that Ingo was much more unpredictable.

 

Against those guys he could have gone 3-0 and then again he could have gone 0-3. Im guessing it would have been somewhere in between

I'd sooner pick Ingo to beat a peak Norton (let alone the passed it one who Shavers fought) before I'd pick him to lose to Stallings.

Poor choice of words. I'll concede that Shavers was not stronger than Foreman but he damn sure hit harder according to every common opponent.

And again the version of Foreman, Lyle faced wasn't at his most powerful.

 

It's like saying Ruddock was more dangerous than Tyson because he hit harder.

If both fought every heavy in history, I'd bet my life savings that Ingo racks up far less losses. You don't see him losing to the likes of Bob Stallings in the pinnacle of his career.
