Anthony Joshua says he's targeting a fight with Tyson Fury in 2025

Should have happened a decade ago. Watch, both are going to "rebuild" with a couple of seemingly easy fights, with a super fight planned for late this year, or early next year. One or both of them are gonna get knocked out or upset by whoever they were supposed to win against, and the fight will keep being pushed back.

 

Hmmm, I think Fury will be super motivated not to lose to Joshua and will come in 100% and we'll find out again that AJ is actually shot ...

 

Fury was contractually obligated to fight Wilder again.

 

The Fury that fought Usyk in both fights outboxes AJ. But if he comes in the same shape as Ngannou anything can happen...

 

Good fight. AJ continues to be game for those it seems. Fury is another matter, but hard to see what else he could do except retiring. Maybe Chisora IV....

 

Yesh, if Fury takes the fight, he'll whip himself into the best shape possible. No way in hell he'd want to roll over for Joshua.

 

This is the most logical fight for both fighters. There is a lot of pride on the line, as well as money. It should motivate the both of them to be at their best.

I'd make Fury the favorite. Fury did better against Usyk and he didn't get brutally knocked like AJ did. I think Fury will find those openings and he may stop AJ late.

 

No further delays.

 

Comparing shared opponents:

Ngannou: Fury won a split decision, AJ won by 2nd round KO.
Wallin: Fury won by decision, AJ won by Wallin retiring after 5 rounds.
Usyk: they both lost twice to usyk, both lost by 1 UD and 1 SD. However, Fury did get "knocked down" while on his feet in their first fight and had to take a 10 count. AJ wasn't knocked down.
W. Klitschko: Fury won by decision, AJ won by 11th round KO.
Whyte: Fury won by 6th round KO, AJ won by 7th round KO.
Kevin Johnson: Fury won by decision, AJ won by 2nd round KO.

Of course, there's other considerations. Is AJ damaged goods after getting smashed by Dubois? Is Fury too damaged from both the Wilder trilogy and Usyk fights?

Still, i'm gonna go with AJ by decision here. Even if they're both slightly past their prime, and assuming AJ isn't shell shocked from the dubois fight, I think AJ has the advantage when it comes to discipline, athleticism, and punch strength. His weakness may be punch resistance though when looking at the Ruiz and Dubois fights. And Fury may have the edge there. Regardless, even though this fight should have happened a couple years ago, neither fighter is shot, like say, Wilder is at this point. It could be an exciting sendoff for both fighters!

the 70s, the heavy weight division was ruled by men who kept in shape. here we have joshua, a heavy who keeps in shape/condition and is mocked for it? and they celebrate the gypsy belly who disrespects himself and the sport! btw, not a big fan of either, just showing the hypocrisy.

 

Fury doesn’t deserve the ever present preemptive and post fight saver to the argument - “The best version would’ve done this, that or the other”.

We’re also hearing AGAIN that a 100% committed Fury will win - just like we heard prior to each Usyk fight.

It was also implied that a Fury at, say, 80% of himself would still easily deal with Ngannou, the boxing debutant. It didn’t play out the way -

AJ and Fury just need to get in the ring and fight so we at least have a material fact to be getting on with - instead of always hearing about Fury’s speculated advantage, advantage that is often supported by the hypothetical provision that all the planets line up for him.

AS IF all other fighters enjoy perfect context and circumstances - they obviously don’t, of course and they certainly aren’t afforded the numerous before and after concessions that have been allowed for Fury.

 

Good, let's get this over and done with.

Nice post and comparison of shared opponents. I happen to think that AJ is shot (mentally, and possibly chin-wise as well) as demonstrated by the Dubois fight. Hence I'm pretty confident Fury would win. But if not, you are quite right, AJ has a reasonable chance to beat Fury.
