They were both inconsistent at heavyweight, but at their absolute best, this, IMO, is one of the most 50/50 matchups I can think of that I’ve gone back and forth on numerous times. Who wins this matchup?
Moorer. Bad match up for Ray stylistically. Moorer might have had to rise from knockdown or two but would still outbox Mercer to win by UD
People tend to take the best Mercer in H2H, and there is no best Moorer. So, if you think you understand quantum mechanics, you definitely do not understand quantum mechanics. Quantum? I almost killed 'um. Anus? Ain't us that started the fire. Fire? We didn't start the fire. But the flames keep burning. Who started it? Doris Day. ...In my pants! Boom. Tadow. No take-backs. Da hell am I talking about?
This depends if Ray stays back the Moorer outboxes him, but if Ray brawls with Moorer then Mercer by tko.
Moorer on points? At the end of this fight, Mercer be grabbing Michael's gloves like whispering "This is...from Matilda..."
Mercer stops Moorer. Moorer does not have the discipline and concentration to avoid Ray all fight. And, he doesn't have the chin to survive when Ray lands. There are many unprepared versions of Ray that could lose to Moorer, but, if we are talking Ray at his best, he stops Morer.
Michael Moorer climbs off the canvas to win a decision. His right jab was potentially a problem for Mercer. Ray would certainly have his moments but I don't think he keeps MM down.
I definitely think that Moorer has braved harder punchers, Cooper rattled Holyfield more than Mercer. Most versions of Michael pre-Foreman win, and likely that version of him, too.
Never thought of this fight! A fun one to think about. IF Moorer boxes and isn’t stubborn and listens to what Teddy would be yelling at him to do in the corner… Moorer wins on points. But Moorer did get lured into a brawl often.
