corralles vs castillo- for the action and the last round. both men put their hearts on the line for that fight. gatti vs ward 1- when ward was punched and fell head first into the turn buckle, on his knees and then got up and gave as much as took!
Larry Holmes vs Tex Cobb. A fight so one sided Howard Cosell stopped announcing boxing matches after it. Fight should've been stopped as early as 10 rds . Fight went the entire 15 rds. Cobb was a simply a punching bag that moved from the 1st rd to the 15th.
foreman vs lyle- two hard hitting heavies trading HEAVY leather until that famous round and climactic knock out.
Night of epic incompetence by the NYSAC. Not checking Luis Resto’s gloves on the undercard when he fought Billy Collins, and then the ref completely out to lunch and letting Duran-Moore go on forever.
Johansson v Machen was a short fight with a brutal ending. Also one of the worst examples of incompetent refereeing in boxing I can think of. Also fights with a tragic ending obviously: Eubank v Watson 2 Boom Boom Mancini v Duk Koo Kim Pintor v Owen
Hi Guys. I second all the above, for me there are a 3 that leave a bitter taste, the never to be forgotten ( or repeated hopefully ) John Collins tragedy, there have been all too many stains on Boxing, but what transpired in this fight was nothing short of legalised murder, the fact that Collins crashed his car and died a year or so later, was truly horrific, whether it was intentional or not we will never know, what we do know is this handsome and skillful boxer spiralled into a fit of depression, and whilst physically he just about recovered, mentally he was a lost soul, what's more he left behind a young family, as if he own demise wasn't enough, the loathsome and despicable Panama Lewis was the architect behind this fateful encounter, and should have his name expunged from the record books forever. What courage and heart Paret displayed in his losing fight with the bullish Fullmer goes off the scale, he simply didn't know the meaning of the word quit, time and again he waded right back at Fullmer after taking sickening shots to both head and body, Gene was a tough assignment for fully grown Middleweights let alone a blown up Welterweight, try telling that to Paret, the ref could and should have stopped the brutal beating many rounds earlier, it might, just might have prevented his fateful fight with Griffith resulting in his death, lots of writers and people within the sport are of the opinion that the Fullmer beat down, was some way a contributor to the tragic ending. He had it all, good looks, charisma, charm, plus he could fight, Mando Ramos should be talked about as being one of the very best, his reign should have been long and illustrious, he should be mentioned alongside, Duran, Gans, and Leonard , but alas that is demonstrably not the case, his tale was not unique, the boxing world has seen many a young and gifted fighter go off the rails, and sadly will see again, but Mandos life had pathos all of its own, too much money, adoration, and fame at an early age, ties with friends from his youth on the streets, were had to shake off, after weeks , months, of strict training, then the accolades after another victory, how to celebrate, what you do when an old buddy calls you to go out and party, and them some, you might indulge in some stuff, that will heighten your mood..... the almost lifeless body of Ramos being carried out of the ring in a stretcher, after the merciless beating handed out by the menacing Chango Carmona , will live long in the memory, will it stop future young fighters following in his fateful footsteps, properly not. stay safe guys, chat soon.
If this fight wasn't violent enough for you, you need help. Both corners felt it was violent enough and helped have it stopped. This content is protected
Good picks. Mancini Kim is one of the most violent fights I can remember. Great fight tragic outcome unfortunately
Duran vs Leonard I... Duran really leaves Leonard's face like a pound cake,at least Leonard avenged it vs an unfit Duran though.
I think Leonard got the tactics perfect in the rematch but it for sure didn’t make for as much of a fan friendly fight as the first one, and the context of Duran rushing into the rematch unfit/out of shape is definitely why it was a different fight the second time. Credit to Leonard for choosing to stand there with Duran and exchange in the first fight, both shown how great they really were across a high pace 15 rounds
