Valuev was basically a better Joyce - even bigger with an even better chin and slightly less terrible skills and defence.

With how thin this era has been, he'd definitely have been top 10 - his limitations wouldn't have been as big an issue against the limited fighters of this era as you might think... He wouldn't have got to a belt (unless Wilder uncharacteristically accepted the fight) but otherwise would've done quite well.

Furys clearly better than anyone Vitali beat by a hefty margin. What's the rationale for picking Vitali? I should think Fury was better than Byrd and old fat Lewis

Valuev vs Big Bang Zhang would be epic.

    Not in my opinion.

Maybe borderline or perhaps ranked by one alphabet organization. But a legit top ten?

You mean the PED cheat that Fury? Also Lewis was 249 for Tyson his previous fight and 256 against Vitali? You know a 6'5 250lber can fluctuate more then 7 lbs pretty regularly.

    I think so.
Valuev was effective against big HWs. It was the smaller movers that often seemed to trouble him more.
He also had a decent resume even if not the greatest
Seemed to have good powers of recovery

In the Fury era yes. I think he'd be 5th or 6th but given Fury and Usyk weren't around for large swaths of the era he'd have usually been ranked like 4th.

At this current moment I'll say he'd still be top 10 but given how loaded the division is I think we're looking at 9 or 10.

No, Valuev brought nothing to the table, any current top ten heavy would TKO him, he was so slow and easy to hit and he didn`t have much power.

Which big heavyweights? Valuev`s resume is garbage.

He probably never beat a top 15 in his own era.
