Was Jones the fastest boxer in history? Was he overrated? Does any current active fighter have similar hand speed? This content is protected This content is protected This content is protected This content is protected This content is protected
There are probably loads of guys at minimum weight that fast lol - I have no idea he was fast as sheet tho, the way you beat RJJ IMO is punching with him… that speed can cover a lot of openings, mistakes etc - he’s a guy you need to “punch with” the easiest example to show that is Shavers vs Quarry… at the stoppage Quarry throws a right hand simultaneously with Shavers and that’s all there was, timing… with Roy I think someone who can safety get into range and force him to throw something would have a lot of success… let’s take, much as I doubt this fight would ever happen… Carl Thompson, he could make the ring small, have his man in range and counter the hell out of you because he wasn’t afraid to be in the “danger zone” I think RJJ hypnotised a lot of people and they let themselves be pot shotted.
As an overall package I think he was the fastest. Inoue is one of the fighters with really fast hands. Tank too. But they are so much shorter so it's hard to say due to their punches travelling a shorter distance. But if you add Roy's reflexes and foot speed you just have an unreal fighter. Never seen anything like him in that aspect.
Jones was definitely the fastest fighter I've seen from '54 up. Coupled with his balance, agility and range. Pure handspeed Hector Camacho at 130 and 135.
I think Meldrick Taylor is the fastest fighter ever, either him or Camacho. I think Roy is the fastest fighter at and above MW ever though
But none of them had anywhere close to RJJ's punching power though Taylor for example would do what I call "shoe shine" with his flurries they looked flashy and incredibly fast but not a whole lot of power. When RJJ put punches together they hurt!!!! big difference.
Yeah I do agree with that. Roy's power/speed combination seems unmatched. Neither Meldrick nor Camacho were really hitters. Roy punched through the target...........with speed.
Roy may have had the same power as Robinson and faster combos but I think Ray had more stink on his combos, he tore fighters apart with combos as did Louis.
Definitely the fastest fighter from the higher weights no doubt about it. How he's able to have that kind of blinding speed along with KO power at his weight is astounding. A truly marvelous specimen he was in his prime. His knockdown of Reggie Johnson is still like watching a lightning flash. It happened so quickly. This content is protected
Yeah for his size an weight. Probably some lightweight or weights under that fighters that could be faster but put those fighters weights up to 160 an then you would really appreciate how fast middleweight an above Jones was
