He isn't putting his shot body on the line for bodybuilding dossers Let the smoke settle a little But let's say Dubious or Parker hold the belts in a years time...bingo and he will retire on beating one of them. 6 months of retirement and he'll be on the walls again. Boxing will retire Fury unless he can get a decent exit. Usyk has been given a decent exit which is a shame to not take. He left the sport in a way nobody could be happy with. He has a lot of anger which time won't extinquish.
True, it’s not the way anyone would like to exit boxing. Two consecutive losses to the same opponent, an opponent now considered his superior forever more. Preferable to go out on a win - but if that win came against an opponent not named Usyk - I don’t know that Fury could resolve himself - the two losses to Usyk still hanging heavy, always making Fury # 2 at best. Imagine if Fury secured and won a third fight against Usyk? He moaned about the other two decisions being wrong - third time lucky, he would just say this time they got it right. A one stop shop win over Usyk holds the greatest value for Tyson - I don’t know that Fury is much interested in anything else.
Fury would do well for a few rounds…until a taken aback Jake whispered sweet nothings into his ear…after which Tyson would curiously pull his head in and allow Jake to box out a lame decision.
I love Fury but I wouldn’t be surprised if this retirement ruse is to do a cycle of PED’s before coming back.
A fighter who retires without knowing his limit (loss) will often feel special but lost as they won’t feel they pushed themselves enough to find their limit. it’s fine to retire on a loss. I find it stranger retiring on a win. (In your head you can always do more and will regret in retirement)
Lennox was definitely the right time, he won but he knew his time was up as he struggled more than he felt he should. so 2 fighters you name….well done. Fighting is about overcoming, if you overcome every obstacle and retire on top, the question remains, “did I try enough hurdles” im not talking about their or etc, im talking most fighters psychologically. fighters also struggle retiring in losses. Fighters generally struggle with retirement full stop. this is a historic situation. some it’s more visible, some it’s not, but I’m talking when they are on their own and thinking. (please don’t name a couple of fighters who haven’t, pointing to a couple of exceptions to the rule doesn’t disprove the rule, it proves it)
I can’t see Fury retiring it’s more likely he’s going to retire and do a nice worry free cycle. Let AJ have another fight to see how he looks then decide. Or go for Parker if he beats Dubois.
lewis’s wife retired him. Threatened divorce if he fought again. so I’m not really sure we can count that one as a voluntary retirement.
