He is great but lacks the resume, his career relies on people saying he got robbed by Canelo, I’m not saying he Dident get robbed but that doesn’t justify people saying he is an top 5 MW. I love GGG he is very entertaining and great and was heavily avoided which affected is career negatively. The unfortunate thing is that he was old when he fought canelo and when he got the attention he had fought for so long.
Fairly rated. he is one of the most well rounded boxers in middleweight history. Resume wise he isn’t too 10 but given his reign and his talent, a spot in the bottom half of the top 10 makes sense.
I wonder how this thread will go after the dozen or so other similar threads inevitably also leading to the Classic forum largely bad-mouthing GGG...
The Middleweight division is one of the riches in talent in boxing history. There have been top ten middleweight contenders that didn't win a championship, (A dominant champ, politics, or racism) that were better than Triple G, in the almost 150 yrs of the division.
I think he’s one of those fighters whose abilities in person are better than what his resume actually reflects. But I agree with those who say that his career lacked some “ stand out wins “
Regarding his title defences and H2H ability he could sneak into the top 10. But I don't think his resume is strong for top 10 personally the Middleweight division has so many stand out fighters with better resumes.
I have him #13 all time at MW based solely on fights contested in that division, disregarding guessed outcomes in H2H fights that didn't happen. His consistency and utter dominance, in virtual mismatches, over multiple top 10 contenders during his prime, is extremely impressive to me, whilst, as others have said, he lacks elite wins relative to most of the MWs in history that I rank above him.
Def underrated on these fourms lot of people on here hate on him for some reason but overall I think he's generally rated fairly not the best resume but was super dominant in his prime and has some solid wins sadly all the best middleweights avoided him till he was old so his resume could have been better and he def got robbed in the first Canelo fight.
When I was younger I thought he was overrated but towards the back end of his career and now going back and watching his fights again I will say he is very underrated if he was given more opportunities especially in his prime he would be one of the greatest of all time in my opinion. He was a one man wrecking crew even though he fought a lot of B level guys he absolutely annihilated them. B level fighters are world class they are just not elite and they do not usually get ran over even by elite fighters.
I don't think he's overrated at all. I still have him beating Canelo 2 out of 3 even though Canelo blatantly made him wait hoping he would be a past it version when they fought which he was yet still won. I started seeing him slip vs Wade. Big cracks by the Jacob's fight which I thought he won clean. I liked his style alot pre Sanchez training him. I believe Sanchez messed with his style a bit too much and that aged him quicker. Great fighter IMO
Agree with you a 110% I feel like his career is an big what if, what if he was younger when he got the canelo fight what if he wasn’t robbed what if he was er ducked
