As much as I don't like Hopkins, a good version of Hopkins would likely outsmart Golovkin. He was also tough.
Golovkin wears him down and outworks him down the stretch, Hopkins couldn’t keep him off in mid range or fight his way out, and he also couldn’t just stay on the outside, because Golovkin was great at taking away the jab and closing the ring off.
It would have been a great fight and if both were in their prime at the same time you know neither guy would duck.
How is that then? At 160, where they would box in this fantasy fight, Hopkins went life and death with Segundo Mercado (hardly a hall of fame inductee) and barely got away with a draw after being bounced off the canvas a couple of times. GGG would punch holes in him and gets the win, however tbf to Hopkins he would probably fiddle and complain his way to the cards where he would lose on an UD.
B hop is one of the best mw ever lived, has wins over other greats too. ggg is not in the same league as b hop, he lost to the great he fought… b hop was one of the smartest fighters going. truth is it’s just us guessing what would have happened in a time that doesn’t exist. so no point arguing about it.
Love ggg but Hopkins at middleweight was a beast big strong and just so clever crazy output aswell put Hopkins up against any middleweight of any era
Context....... He fought Mercado in 10,000 feet altitude in Ecuador in which he hadn't acclimatized to properly. Hopkins arrived in Ecuador only a day or 2 before the fight do you know the effects when you haven't properly adjusted to the climate ? What happened when they rematched in America ? Oh yeah Hopkins stopped him in 7 very one sided rounds.
