I don't see any other reason why someone would disagree with this, so I do agree with you. Moore was known to mercilessly taunt other men for the size of their pee-pee. Sure, he wouldn't say anything directly, but he would always have that air about him that suggested he knew why they were insecure. And that kind of air is merciless.
I think he's one of the best Heavyweights of all time never to win a title his resume at Heavyweight was actually insane and better than most champions. He had like over 60 wins at Heavyweight and beat 20 Heavyweights over 200 pounds. As for the thread yes he's easily an ATG he's no lower than a top 15 greatest fighter of all time. That's why when people say Usyk is the GOAT or a top 10 fighter of all time they really need to do their research on the resumes of some of these greats of the past.
It warms my bitter heart to see 42 definitely and nothing else. Not even a contrarian for contrary's sake. I am amazed and humbled by the community.
Maybe I'm missing something here.......................isn't Archie almost universally in everyone's top 10 ever? Or am I trippin?
I mistakenly read 'Archie' as 'Bobby' and voted with a big yes. However, the vote definitely still stands.... Both men are legends.
I know right? I’ve literally never seen anyone not class Moore as one of the greats. Very bizarre question.
Absolute legend. then stuck around as an old man to help train other legends. Wasn’t he always in Foreman’s corner? When Foreman got old and slow, but real tricky, wasn’t some of that the work of Moore?
I agree, when people say Usyk is the GOAT, many times it's because that's what media and fight promoters want you to think. This has happened with many other fighters in recent decades too.
There are many ways to decide who we all consider the greats of the sport. Archie Moore is special in that he'd shown greatness in so many different ways that I genuinely believe no one with any knowledge can say he isn't one of the true all time greats. I count him not just as one of the greatest, but as the singular greatest in boxing history. That would be disagreed by many but consider all the boxes he checks off and try to find other fighters that can meet those same levels. Longevity - check Timeless technically ability (defensively/offensively) worth studying for young boxers - check Athletic ability in his prime (and beyond) - check Ability to overcome diversity (injuries, age, various styles of boxing) - check A depth of knowledge that allowed him to be a resource to generations of boxers after him and coaching other greats like comeback George Foreman - check A good mind into old age showing how much he'd minimized damage to himself through his career - check Resume - check Resume across weight classes and ending up at the highest weight fighting younger heavier guys and typically winning - check Roberto Duran seems to be one of the only other guys to check so many of these criteria, but even he is overshadowed by Moore in my opinion. Sorry I wrote a lot but I just wanted to emphasize how absurdly great the man was. Honestly, I'd love to hear anything that knowledgeable posters can add to this. Hijack the thread and make it about just how dang great he was. Lol
