Jack Dempsey is an ancient all time great warrior but boxing has evolved drastically it's like looking at 2 completely different sports.

    Jack Dempsey average weight: 190lb

    Canelo Alverez rehydration weight: 185lb

Nah I think Jack beats him, though it’d be more competitive than a lot of people favouring Jack think it’d be.

I think Tunney puts the beats on Canelo far more devastatingly, with his counters and elite management of distance.

Those guys fought 70 rounds & without steroids  .. they were built differently. Technique wasn't as evolved but he'd still fk Canelo up bad.

I honestly never know if you’re being serious when you make threads like this.

You’ll have to let me know.

But it’s never about the eras that they fought in.

It’s how they’d have matched up on the night stylistically.

Boxing is the one of the only sports in planet were people think athletes from the 1920s beat those in the 2020s. I find that fascinating. And Canelo is not a average fighter in the 2020s he is a elite.

Nostalgia tripping is what annoys me the most with boxing fans. Canelo smacks Dempsey and it's not even close. Dempsey is much more of a legendary figure in American boxing folklore than he is a h2h world beater. The guy would lose badly to the competition available 20-30 years down the line not to mention 100. Boxing evolves, training evolves, nutrition evolves, PEDs evolve. Old guys while great for their time, are no match for the greats of today. Probably the only sport where fans refuse to acknowlege this.

Dempsey was a brawler and a gunslinger but if you look at someone like Gene Tunney, Tunney doesn't look entirely modern (guards have changed with gloves) but nobody is convincing me there would be more than handful of fighters in the world today who would be better than him. Unlucky for him two of them are arguably at LHW  But Tunney would probably pack comfortably into middleweight so it's unlikely he and Beterbiev would ever meet at anything other than a round-table.

Under marques of Queensbury rules I don't see how Jack wins this fight. The fight game has moved on from 100 years ago, it's as simple as that.

You wanna know what else is gonna **** a lot of people off....Dempsey ain't the one! A lot of these guys we have up on pedestals would have a rough go at it on modern era. I don't care how tough they were in their day, or how rounds were calculated. If those fighters were so superior than their styles would have transcended time, their stances would still be the same today, and boxing demographics would not have changed so drastically

Make the fight back in Dempsey’s era,Dempsey would be up on a manslaughter charge ! Let’s see Canelo pull the A side v B side BS along with the same day weigh in rule and a lack of peds !

Young punk whippersnappers allowed in here. Sad.

Canelo wouldn't get into a ring with Dempsey. He's not silly like some posters in here. Silly boys.
