If a punch lands on the gloves, and they go down, should it be scored as a knockdown?

In that case, should it be called a knockdown?

If the damage was done by the punch whether scoring or not then yes.

Glove doesn't absorb all the impact and damage

Not sure I've ever seen someone knocked down that way.

That would make thing too complicated. Now they have to determine if it was a scoring punch.

I think if a knockdown wouldn't have occurred without a legal punch, it should always be counted as a knockdown tbh.

Anyone who has even sparred, let alone fought, will know that if you don't absorb most of a big punch with your guard the effect of the blow can still be quite devastating.

If the fighter goes down on the end of a legal punch, it is a knockdown regardless of where it lands.

If fighter A hits fighter B on the forearm, or the shoulder, and fighter B goes down, that is a knockdown, too.

No. Only scoring blows count on scorecards. So a knockdown can only be scored by a scoring punch. Other punches can be used to score other criteria, like ring generalship and defense, but by themselves they should not determine the outcome of a fight.

If someone has their glove to their temple as part of their guard and the force of the punch to that glove knocks them down, why wouldn't anyone count it as a KD? There is no rule that the glove has to make contact with bare flesh/skull for it to count.

Yes, it counts. A punch has knocked them down, even if it’s partially blocked. The punch caused it.

Your opponent blocking a legal punch doesn’t turn it illegal.
