What do you think of Heavy weight Toney, against smokin hot Joe Frazier, being on his feet at the end of 12 - 15 rounds? I think as tough as Toney was and as skilled and durable, he still ends up getting stopped. Just my op
Toney can definitely survive the fight. He can do very well i believe - he's a noted counter-puncher who thrives in situations like this. Jirov threw a thousand punches at Toney and James responded with a respectable 800 of his own, and on almost on 50% accuracy. Think that throws a ****** wrench at the idea of Joe just casually overrunning Toney. Dunno about him actually winning, but going the distance is totally plausible.
Is it’s 50/50 that Toney survives to see the final bell. On one hand he was never stopped in some 90 fights and even withstood a few heavyweight hitters. On the other, he was also floored and staggered in his career and Joe Frazier’s pressure would be relentless
I think Joe stops him. Joe was relentless, and I don't think Toney has quite enough power to keep Joe from bulldozing him.
I think and maybe I’m crazy… a good in-shape 190-210lbs JT… wins, I think he’d smother Joes hook and rip the uppercut up the middle with how Frazier stands in the pocket.
Frazier may wear James down (possibly) but he would not batter him om the score cards. James rolls Fraziers right hands and catches his hooks all night long. James counter shots roll off so easily as Frazier takes the shots and continually pushes the fight. James arms and shoulder will take weeks to heal but his brain would be fine. James by UD.
Something people may not also realise or wish to believe… Toney was a bigger or similar sized man as Frazier, look at there builds both at about 200lbs… then see Toney at HW vs Holy, he was always cutting a lot and naturally a big guy… I think Toney would do what Quarry begun before his hand got injured, get the right on the inside of Fraziers wide hook, then when he’s inside get the shoulder into his chest and rip the uppercut up the middle when Frazier squares up, he’s got nothing to fear from Joes right hand, Joe threw his left hook off his front foot so he couldn’t turn on the right very well Futch also told Mr McCallum “Never finish on a right with this guy” something like that, weak right like Fraziers he better hope he don’t throw it. Close fight for me. Joe was a metronomic wrecking ball but had little guile about him. Once JT adapted to the pressure I can see him handling Joe's straightforward volune style well and countering him all night. This fight goes the distance with a close points win for whoever wins it, it's that close...
