I’m not coming up with much in a quick search. Does anyone know Mike Weaver’s training routine and diet when he was fighting?
Trenbologna sandwiches helped him D-Bolish his goals In all seriousness, he was in the Marines, so you can assume what his training was like
He was believe it or not pretty lazy for a while (as a boxer) despite his physique he liked the piano, painting and was overall a nice guy who took his religion seriously - he claimed to do a lot of press ups (that’s all for his physique) and spar a heap of rounds but he also hung around guys like CT Fletcher, like most folks Norton, Tyson and Foreman that everyone asks about they all probably did some form of strength training even if it wasn’t lifting, they didn’t have some hidden muscle gaining technique - if you want to look like any of them there is no magic you don’t have enough muscle lift some weights, eat and diet down to reveal the results… but as a boxer Weaver would spar the rounds he fought, run, hit the bag and do some strength training it’s not complicated, pretty much all fingers train this way with little variation.
Charles I'm as I'm assuming you want to know about his incredible physique. Like Ken Norton. Weaver was also a Marine, but also like Norton he said his body came from having good genetics, lifting weights wasn't done until after his boxing career.
I find it funny that around the time PEDs came into it suddenly everyone looks like a monster but they all had the same story… great genes and did push ups exclusively, no one before them apparently had the right combo of genes and push ups but around the 70s-80s it emerges?
Adam Corolla used to work out in the same gym as Hercules and has talked about it at length. He says the dude was just all natural specimen, born that way, built that way. Shoulders you could land a plane on and a 30 inch waist.
Weaver and Norton had the bone structure, broad shoulders, tiny waist, muscles with great insertion points to really pop. That is all body building, aesthetic stuff but they had it. Though he didn't have those same physical idiosyncrasies for body building, I've seen pictures of George Chuvalo where he looks absolutely beast like. Max Baer also was had the body building potential, certainly an enviable physique. They were there before the juice.
Aye Chuvalo was a rhino, Baer could’ve been an early era bodybuilder if he trained… some fighters who did always strike me as interesting were Jersey Joe Walcott well before steroids (started in the 60s) Ruben Carter and Cleveland Williams all just or well before the big PED boom, they didn’t look overly gym crazy but for boxers? Lot of potential.
