Of the current welterweights kicking about today, which one do you give the best chance of beating Jaron Boots Ennis?
I don’t think any of these guys beat him . Stan has a good chance he’s a beast and boots doesn’t have the best defense… I voted Norman just because I don’t know how to rate him just yet I thought santillian was this killer and Norman destroyed him . So I either overrated him big time or Norman is the real deal
Welterweight division has dried up a bit with Crawford moving up and Spence disappearing. I'd honestly have said Spence if he was an option, would be keen to see how many people would pick him as an option. Stanionis is a decent fighter but I think Ennis is very good, and will edge him on points. In the polls - I might actually back the Ryan Garcia that beat Haney to have the best chance to beat Ennis (slightly different weight I know) - I think Garcia could definitely hurt Ennis with his left hook and speed. Teofimo - if he forces Ennis to be on the front-foot will be interesting.
What do you think of Cissokho? He had a solid amateur career, and a couple solid wins but hasn't fought since 2023. For a while - I was really hoping Connor Benn would fight Cissokho, although would have all the ingredients for a robbery in Benn's favour.
Since Ennis looks just about done it the weight, as in he's stayed around one fight too many, like Cordina and Taylor. It'll most likely be Stanionis stopping him right before he walks through the exit door.
Firstly, I like the way his name sounds. Souleymane Cissokho. Top-tier name imo. Secondly, I think his career has been mismanaged. He's already 33 and has had only 17 fights in his pro career. Add onto that the delays he's had from injuries and he's had a very stop-start career overall. If he beats Kavaliauskas later this year, he'll be in line to fight Barrios for the WBC title. Old Kava is probably harder to beat than Barrios imo, who really isn't all that good. So I definitely think Cissokho can win a title (and he's clearly a talented fighter going off eye-test and his amateur record) but I think he's left it too late to do anything really impactful in the sport.
I agree, Cissokho is weirdly a good name. Cissokho V Kavaliauskas will be a good fight - looking forward to it. Great test for him. Would love to see Benn get humbled at some point by an media underdog.
