That was a very good matchup, and a good fight. No criticism when two young talented undefeated guys decide to take a risk. We should applaud the promotion.
Was an excellent match up, the fight lived up to it and was a good boxing show with decent commentary etc. it’s a shame fans aren’t interested in that. why would you be wanting it to fail?
150,000 to 160,000 buys at $80 a pop. https://www.yardbarker.com/boxing/a..._announced_was_it_a_success/s1_17349_41724482 https://www.fightsports.tv/benavidez-vs-morrell-ppv-buys-150k-160k/ https://boxingshowtimes.com/boxing-news/ppv-numbers-of-morrell-vs-benavidez https://www.boxingnews24.com/2025/0...orrell-setting-the-stage-for-beterbiev-clash/ I always think it's funny when fans spread rumors that the buys were lower than the actual number, thinking it's an insult to event. Do people honestly think promoters would publicly brag in the media (and, therefore, to the Internal Revenue Service) that they made double or triple the money than they actually did?
It did okay considering how expensive it was. The Saudi shows have made the PPV market more difficult because they are resetting price expectations.
It certainly generated a bigger profit than Fury-Usyk. Fury and Usyk (just the two of them) split $200 million in fight one and split $200 million again in fight two. Nobody dares to bring up that those two PPVs alone lost more than $300 million. Riyahd Season cards are close to being a billion dollars in the hole already. I don't care how big your bankroll is, that doesn't go on forever.
The Saudi cards aren't about making money, which is why they are happy to suppress the PPV market. The biggest risk is that the prince or whatever loses interest and finds a new hobby. That model is not sustainable. But neither is the $80 PPV model for any American fight. They need to bring that number down to $50 unless is a true megafight like Canelo/Crawford.
People above are wrong wrong wrong. I know it hurts but Rick Glaser gets the REAL ppv numbers from his source (LA based TV attorney) 70,000 ppv buys is TRASH lol. Tank is next hahaha.
Well, they kinda are. It's not his money. The money comes from a fund that's supposed to create these sporting events TO generate money in areas like tourism, travel and further investment. Which boxing isn't doing there. That's the biggest problem. That, plus, he's clearly not a matchmaker, which is also troubling. Once you get past the obvious unifications that everyone wanted, he's lost. He's now said, if Bivol wins, Beterbiev and Bivol will fight again. Fury and Usyk and Usyk and Joshua is played out. Once Fury "retired" again ... he's like maybe we'll have Usyk-Dubois II? Maybe Joshua-Wilder six years too late? Maybe Wlad at 50 will come out of retirement? All these "now smaller" promoters just need to maintain themselves with what they're doing, because this whole Saudi Boxing thing could easily crash and burn at a moment's notice.
