I assume you’d consider their primes to be Lyle of the Forman or Shavers fight and the Braddock of the Baer fight. Who wins this matchup?
I went with Braddock on points but not with any confidence either way. Given that Braddock was only truly stopped by Joe Louis after being retired for two years I doubt Lyle knocks him out. And Ron could be outboxed.
Jimmy Braddock was better than Jimmy Young. And the only man who ever put Braddock down was Joe Louis who hit harder than Ron Lyle. Braddock by decision.
I never said he'd put him down, just that he would go through him. I would go with a referee intervention in 6 or 7 rounds. Also I would go with Jimmy Young on a clear decision over JB. Also, Corn Griffin had Jimmy down in their bout. But I do like your opinion on the subject. We're all entitled to one.
Fair enough, I was in error on Louis being the only one to knock Braddock down, I think that was inaccurately stated in some old newspaper coverage of the fight that I read on Newspapers.com. I actually think Braddock-Young would be a pick’em fight. I am consistently on the record here that I think Braddock is nowhere near as bad as people here think and that Jimmy Young is horribly, horribly, HORRIBLY overrated here.
