Both of these men have been subject to some recent revisionism, which was to their disadvantage. In both cases the criticism was partially justified, but in both cases it ended up going too far in my opinion. Based on their records alone you would have to install Corbett as favorite if teh fight is in the traditional heavyweight division. The counter argument that some will make, is that there had been some sort of evolution of the sport between their times, and that this would be enough to rip the argument in favor of Carpintier. Otherwise Corbett is the bigger and cleverer man, and while Carpintier might be the harder hitter, he probably doesn't have a Fitzsimmons type equalizer.
