Apparently Bakole was training for 8 weeks up until January. Therefore, it is worrying for him how fat he was. He was nowhere near fit enough to safely compete in a top level heavyweight fight and in that sense I understand Billy Nelson pulling him out for his own safety. The organisers of this card and the people who passed Bakole fit to fight are the ones to blame not Bakole and Nelson who, like most people would, accepted a huge payday. I also suspect that Billy Nelson was not aware how out of shape Bakole was until he got there.
I get what you saying to an extent but Billy Nelson been telling anyone who will listen for years that Bakoke is a monster who will dominate the division. If Nelson genuinely thought Bakoke had the potential to win a world title, hold it for a period and gain access to the money that would accompany this would he really have just chucked him into a fight he must have know he would lose? My guess is no and he just been hyping a fighter who he knew had a clear ceiling for years. I have taken the fight but I know as a 46 year old who never had a pro fight that I will never be heavyweight champion, my guess is Nelson/Bakoke knew actually the same. Also Bakoke is meant to be professional athlete. No one expecting him to spar or train several times a day outside camp but he should still be ticking over. You never get a modern football turning for pre-season in that shape. Part of your job as full time sportsman is keep yourself in decent nick 365 days of the year. He was not just in bad shape for a pro boxer he was in bad shape for a human period. Also if Nelson did not know what shape he is was in how are the organizers meant to know? He turns up on day of the fight, the paperwork already signed so you got pay him whether or not he fights. In this situation you got no choice. You got more a point about the medical people.
He saved the card and allowed Parker to at least face someone on paper with some world level recognition. He made a ton of money, a career high pay day. He would have been insane to turn it down. Given the extremely late notice, the organisers would have struggled to find anyone near Bakole's level as a HW. He has done Turki a favour and I am sure will get well paid for the Ajagba fight as well. There is a big question on why with all the money on offer now with the Saudi involvement, he is on a lads holiday eating himself into the size of a sumo wrestler though. That is a whole different conversation.
i do wonder how the like sof Bakole or Andy Ruiz for example, cant simply employ a chef to cook them healthy meals every day so they could then get into extreme shape. sure,. their body make up may mean they'll never look like AJ, but they'd certainly be in better physical condition than they've shown.
I hope they make very good use of the pay day because that was embarrassing Definitely hurt his in ring career
It was good management. He got the big pay day and got out early. It’s not like he had to protect the zero anyway. I’m sure he was told behind the scenes that he’d be looked after in the future no matter what happened and more fights will come his way. The main point of the profession is to get the big pay day without taking much damage. Job done.
This is the same Bakole who had a go fund me page because he couldn't get sponsors. He doesn't sell tickets and he's getting the attention now because Turki is more bothered about talent and good fights as opposed to PPV and ticket sales. Personal chefs are an expense he probably struggles to afford...Ruiz doesn't have that excuse mind.
Bakole had never ever moved his head off line. It took Parker and Andy Lee just 3 minutes of intel to workout they could walk Bakole onto a right hand. Parker landed 2 or 3 good ones before the finisher but can you imagine if Bakole was in with a big puncher? Parker had never been concussive at the higher level.
They did what any sensible person would have done. Cashed in, tried their luck and quit at the first sign of trouble.
At the end of the day he’s supposed to be a professional athlete he should always be in shape. Of course he’s going to take the payday but that farce last night turned him into a meme.
Bakole is a disgrace and so is his management allowing him to ever be in such shape whether in camp or on holiday. Best win of his career should be followed up with dedication to the sport. The man that 'nobody wants to fight' has turned into the man 'that nobody cares about'. Hope he enjoys spending his pile of Saudi money at his local bakers and don't want to hear any excuses. A complete red face for all involved.
Glad to see everyone giving Bakole it stinking for his size and shape, it was disgusting. Fat slob. I'm genuinely in much better shape than him, I'd imagine most of this forum are. And no, I'm not saying I could compete or even get close to it, I know that. I'm just saying a professional 'athlete' should never, ever, get to that size. Pathetic from all involved.
