So you can't understand anyone favouring Marciano over Baer? For sure, Marciano was 185 lbs and hittable.

God **** that’s an excellent point. For the record, I’d favor Marciano and Beterbiev over Baer. Despite the revisionism by some on here, he wasn’t very good which even a cursory viewing of film will show.

Sure. And while i would favour Rocky over Baer, i do have some question marks over Rocky's ability to handle 200 plus pound punchers. Which is why i think even someone as limited as Tua would be favoured over Rocky in a strictly head to head sense.

However, Marciano at least fought a few decent fighters who were over 200 lbs - Layne, Cockell, old Louis etc.

Beterbiev is a stocky LHW fighting no one who is over 200 lbs. Rocky was fighting guys who were a little bigger than him while Beterbiev is fighting guys his size or smaller for the most part.

Again if Beterbiev beat some top hard hitting cruiserweight, then i could see a case for him beating a limited large slugger like Baer. But he hasn't even done that. He hasn't challenged at cruiser despite the fact that he could. So how on earth can i favour him over someone 60 lbs bigger when he hasn't even gone up against anyone decent who was 25 lbs bigger? At least Rocky did that.

Ok. So you can understand someone favouring a hittable 185 lbs fighter over Buddy Baer, just not Beterbiev. Ok. Because your phrasing surely included Marciano, but fair enough.

No, Beterbiev hasn't fought any 250+ lbs club fighter like Marciano did. Probably not a game changer for me when comparing their chances against bigger men, but it is a fact nonetheless.

Buddy Baer would obliterate Beterbiev within a few rounds.
Lee Savold and Nathan Mann were no greats but they both cracked the top 5 with decent longevity and Baer comfortably beat both.
Using a high guard to block nukes would not pan out against a guy with a 93% knockout rate.

Buddy Baer should be a massive favourite over Beterbiev.

No, Marciano is a lot better than Beterbiev imo.

I don't know. Based on quality alone, Marciano should get through him. The issue is the common one of having no examples of Marciano running head first into a massive slugger and it turning out well for him, except for the Layne fight of course, but it depends on how much you esteem Layne's power compared to Baer's.
What we have of Buddy on film is going 6 rounds against Louis in a nonstop slugfest. Based on that, I'd have to assume that Marciano would take longer to take him out and he'd have to content with Baer's mauling, leaning style that Louis could deal with using his footwork.
Perhaps Marciano's body work and inside uppercuts will wear down Baer and end him eventually, but as I said, it's the common question of how this is going to play out considering Buddy won't be a 40 year old 180 pounder for Rocky to chip away at.

Is Beterbiev 180 now all of a sudden? He's getting smaller by the moment :)

He was above 178 lbs already as an amateur more than a decade ago. Bivol is 180+ and Beterbiev looks heavier than him.

My guess is that a Beterbiev that doesn't have to make weight would be 195-200 lbs. Would guess that he's around 190 in the ring today.

I thought this post was asking about Buddy Baer vs Marciano, what did you actually ask me?
