.. capable of beating all the champions of the past after his Erskine, Machen, Patterson streak? It seems to be the trend after a fighter gets a solid streak.

Jesting of course. As a compensation I'm leaving here this fantastic highlight by haNZA.

Considering 99% of boxing fans DKSAB (which real boxing folk would agree with) when something impressive or exciting you don’t fully understand happens you'll probably make more of it then it is, as far as Ingo vs the world? I don’t think so? He’d probably be a bit of a Wilder tbh lol the excitement of Bakole (who I still have faith in) Joyce and Zhang is they’re the size of a house and imagining them against littler (relatively speaking) champions like Liston, Holyfield, Foreman, Louis and Tyson is interesting.

There'd certainly be posters talking like that (just watch here or the World forum every time some guy wins a match), but I feel that most wouldn't. Prior to his chin being exposed, I'd probably place Ingemar Johansson alongside/above Baer. Would've beaten Carnera, and MAYBE could've smashed Schmeling's face in enough to win a stoppage, but he wasn't on Max's level.

I'm sure that there'd be a lot of guys happy that the heavyweight champ was white again, but meh. I definitely would've been sad at the Machen loss, cause I like Eddie a lot.

There were people at the time who expected him to be champion for a long time, so not hard to imagine him having his advocates on this forum.

Champ and undefeated. And these were not just streaks but impressive knockouts. I think before the Patterson rematch, we argue he is up there with Dempsey, but short vs Louis or might be even with Marciano.

Either that or he would be totally discounted. If this forum had been around in 1988, there'd be people saying Johnson and Marciano and Dempsey would flatten Tyson and guys like Max Baer, Schmeling, Sharkey (Jack and Tom) would have good chances of beating him.

They would say he's "unproven" even though he unified the title and flattened several top contenders.

I mean boxing has a very strong lean to past legends so perhaps it would be even bigger lean in that case?

    Jesting?

Being of ice cool and highly enviable Swedish ancestry, I proclaim that of my man Ingo right now, all the time…he is the GOAT. :D

Seriously though, I see and agree with your point.

Knee jerk, premature assessments, be they positive or negative, run rife today.

Everyone has their opinion…and they are many and varied, amplified and well circulated via social media.

From Ingo straight to Liston. Wow.

Sonny really does haunt you, doesn’t he?

He haunted Ingo too…the latter wanting NO part of Liston EXCEPT to promote him.

Ingo, The Thinking Man’s GOAT, wasn’t as dim as he sim.

List the fighters who you think would’ve beaten the Ali that turned up at Miami in Feb 1964?

Conversely list the fighters who you think would’ve beaten Liston otherwise IF Ali hadn’t come along or didn’t exist.

Liston was old, complacent and outta shape BUT, at least he didn’t put his most pressing challenger on the back burner for an inordinate amount of time.

The younger fans would say that he flattens Louis and Dempsey while the older ones sit back and call them nuts.

Yes, actually viewed from within his own era, the perspective immediately changes - Ingo would be seen as the “new guy” on the scene, not part of the venerated old guard.

Is Ingo flattening Louis and Dempsey no longer on the table? Fight fans are so fickle. :D
