I think at this point of his career Bivol is just a little too much for Beterbiev. I still think AB is competitive with Bivol, but I don't think he could win a 3rd fight. Now that it's known that Beterbiev's tank isn't what it used to be I don't see a viable avenue for a Beterbiev victory. Even in his prime, Beterbiev was never going to outbox Bivol. If he tried that he'd get boxed silly. It's not his game. He's a pressure fighter. If you're a pressure fighter and you gas in the 7th round, it's time move on. I'd still like to see Beterbiev fight some other challenges like Benavidez, but I think AB may be done at the p4p level. I'm his biggest fan and it's a sad day for me. I just don't think he has enough left for Bivol anymore. I don't want to see another clear decision defeat with Bivol dancing around the ring, peppering AB.
i agree on all. benavidez is winnable and would still add to his legacy. plus, the interest in the fight would guarantee him a fat paycheck. if he beats david, then consider bivol before retiring.
There are no fights left for Beterbiev outside of Bivol rematch. He is too dangerous to be a gatekeeper. Benavidez will never fight Beterbiev without belts on the line.
After like 6 rounds or whatever its like a switch flipped and Bivol achieved some kind of enlightenment and ascended to the boxing equivalent of nirvana. It was like seeing someone finally figuring out how to utilize the Hellraiser's cube and defeat Pinhead.
I would be ok with no rematch. They're both great fighters who beat each other and lost to each other. I don't see that as a bad thing. Beterbiev would be older and further from his prime in the next fight, favouring Bivol even more. I don't think there needs to be a third fight.
Beterbiev was fortunate to get the nod in the first fight. In the second fight he looked hopeless in the championship rounds. It was clear his power had gone. I don't see a point in a third as Bivol will dominate him even more.
I think it comes down to if he wants another pay day. It's still always possible he catches Bivol with a well timed counter.
It´s still a winnable fight for Beterbiev. 4 months ago he was good enough to beat Bivol. Boxers don´t age overnight that fast. A few minor technical adjustment and it´s either guys fight again.
Team Bivol aged out Beterbiev and it finally paid off Had this fight happened between 2019-2022, I think Beterbiev would have dusted Bivol no problem. They're both 1-1 each. I still think Beterbiev wipes out Benavidez fairly easily though. Some styles gel and some do not.
I disagree. Bivol made an adjustment by setting a higher pace and forced a 40 year old man to work harder than his body could handle. And it worked. Credit to Bivol. AB is not shot. He still beats any other LHW in the world. But AB can't handle that pace anymore.
