Weight, height, reach... I think this could go either way. I question whether Parker has the ability to build up enough pressure to catch Floyd. He's probably too slow for that and Floyd's counter-attacks certainly won't be to his liking. He hasn't boxed a quick fighter with outstanding explosiveness and counter abilities. On the other hand, 60 lbs is 60 lbs. And Floyd is more of a slow starter and often gets caught early. Maybe it will be a Larry Holmes - Michael Spinks 1 like scenario? But I also see a big possibility that Floyd's in and out boxing could fade into standing too long infront of him and trading.
Interesting fight. Patterson has more to him but Parker is much bigger and still has decent skills. I think it would be a close fight.
It’s a 60lbs difference and Parker just the other day took out a 280lbs-300lbs 6ft5+ dreadnought with a counter shot… I think it’s not crazy to say Patterson is probably more skilled then Parker but this isn’t James Toney vs Samuel Peter this is a small fighter with to most people durability issues and a lot of courage, I’m a fan of Floyd but he has pretty much no chance in my book I can see JP taking him out as fast as Liston if FP rushes in like he did… the older more boxing focused Floyd could survive longer but he wouldn’t win.
I ran this fight Through my fight simulation. I have Parker at 240 (not sure if his power increased with weight) A variety of results. Both was capable of knocking the other down. Fight 1 Patterson 15 W (1 kd in 8th by patterson) Closest card 143-142 (floyd needed knockdown) Fight 2 Parker KO Win in Round 4 Fight 3 15 Draw No Kd's Fight 4 Parker 12 W TKO (patterson down twice in 10th & 12th) as he just ran out of gas. Parker somewhat punished Floyd here. Patterson was capable of winning.
Seriously to those picking Parker to be KO’d or TKO’d did they not see who has been hitting him his entire career? Parker might have the most proven chin I can think of off the top of my head… AJ, Wilder, Bakole, Zhang, Whyte, Chisora, Ruiz and against Joyce who he was cut and gassed against only was he finallytaken out by said 270lbs monster in the 11th? Chuvalo however gets stopped by Frazier and Foreman in under 5… Parker hangs with guys up to 100lbs heavier and near a foot taller but it’s Patterson who stops him? The 6ft3 260lbs Parker currently on the run of his life who just took out a 280-300lbs fighter with one punch.
People keep referring to Parker's KO of Bakole but the dude stood right in front of Parker after getting hit with a right hand and made no effort to move his head and Parker got to wind up and throw the same exact punch immediately again. I like Floyd Patterson by late rounds TKO in this fight.
Boxing is wildly Unpredictable. It has a long history of all the way back to the 1890's of people being on the wrong side of favorite's. Just look at Joshua vs Dubois. That's why simulation at least provides some variables away from human option. Which has proven very ineffective. How many folks would have Fireman Flynn beating a prime Sam Langford? Not many yet it happened and a ton of people lost huge amounts of money on that fight "wildly Unpredictable" is the best way to describe things. All it takes is one cut & the entire momentum you think that exists is shifted to the other fighter.
I know some people are too nostalgic and I'm like that myself sometimes, but Parker absolutely destroys Patterson, he's too big, too strong and skilled in his own right...
