Solid chin but not great. Knocked down against Mercado, Echols, Pascale, Kovalev and stopped against Smith.

The guy had been fighting for 22 years or more when he fought *Pascal. He'd been fighting for 26 years when he fought the worlds best 175 in Kovalev. He hadn't fought for 2 years and was at the 28 year mark when he fought Smith and the stoppage was because he didn't get back into the ring. That you hold these up as evidence he didn't have a great chin says it all really. He was 45 odd vs Pascal and all but 50 vs Kovalev and past 50 vs Smith. The man peaked more than a decade earlier than these fights. Unreal.

Echols knocked Hopkins down when he hit him on the break and was warned!

Hopkins has stated Mercado 1 was the turning point of his career and after that he got himself into stupendous shape. It's also well documented he struggled with acclimatization. He whooped Mercado in the rematch and showed a great chin all the way to Pascal 16 years later. He's also never tested positive to steroids and steroids sure wouldn't hurt ones durability.

Excuses. It is the same chin he had when he was 20. And lack of preparation has nothing to do with chin. Not to mention that Toney fought big punchers in Rahman and Peters at Heavyweight when he was overweight and past prime, Bhop never even venturerd north of 175.

I stick with my assessment: solid chin but not a great one.

Toney was a steroid cheat, caught when he was at heavyweight.

Some would agree with you, it's a close call. You are grinding an axe tho as clearly seen by my examples.

This is ridiculous. Few would argue that Hopkins' chin is on the same level as Toney's.

That's crazy, of course preparation effects chin; and there's now way a fighter's chin remains the same over nearly 30 years of fighting.

I'm not even saying B-Hop had a better chin than Toney, but those two sentences are wild.

I wasn't saying it was LOL. I was saying some would agree with solid vs great. I think it's closer to great.

Some of your comments tho have been out of this world, to be frank. Same chin at 50 as 20, prep not affecting chin etc. Some of the silliest things i have ever seen on here.

These things are super basic too. Yeah a chin doesn't crack or deteriorate after decades of taking punches LOL

Bob Fitzsimmons is just one of those guys that I'd read about and then I could never, ever, in a million years, square the footage with the description. THIS guy was a great, lick any sonuvabish in the house guy? C'mon, really? And then, after spending like a dozen years on this forum, I had an epiphany. I was confusing him with the writer of Biloxi Blues, Neil SIMON. FitzSIMMONS/Simon. Anyway, that proved to be a real turning point for me, as an amateur historian and analyst.

That is worthy. No doubt it would make Klompton proud.

Hopkins would never lose to a white boy in a thong.
