    Hello friends,

A short while ago, i created a thread for anyone who is interested in rewatching classic fights with fresh eyes and discussing them on this forum. Thread is here: Which classic fights do you want to revisit in 2025? | Boxing News 24 Fan Forum

In our first installment, we discussed RJJ vs Tarver 1. In our second installment, we will discuss Canelo Alvarez vs GGG 2.

You can rewatch the fight whenever you have time and we will discuss it next Saturday, March 15th 2025. This will give everyone enough time to go back and rewatch the fight with fresh eyes.

You are not obligated to score the fight. However, if you do decide to score the fight, please wait till March 15th 2025 to post your scorecards so we can do this collectively.

Personally, i will be posting my scorecard and adding a poll on top of it.

I am going to embed the fight here.

I saw the first fight again not long ago - and wanted to take another look at a rematch also. Having a chance to discuss it with more people will make it even more fun.
I'll be ready by March 15!

GGG won 8-4 on my scorecard, but I'm biased towards him, he's one of my favorite fighters. A lot of rounds were kinda close, so 7-5 Canelo wouldn't be the worst.

In my opinion it was a close match overall but frankly I would never have given the victory to Canelo, I think that the challenger must do at least something more than the champion to win, a little more is enough but it must be clear (for example for me Holmes had won the rematch with Spinks, by a little but clearly), here that little more but clear in favor of Canelo is not there for me. I had 7 - 5 GGG but 6 - 6 would have been fine too. Instead I do not agree with Canelo's victory, the robbery are clearly others, but in my opinion this match was more GGG than Canelo, with a draw to accept.

My little thought, against Lara Canelo had lost in a slightly clearer way than in this match. I had a 7 - 5 for the Cuban clearer than in Canelo - GGG (a small but clear advantage for Lara, 6 - 6 I think would have been generous for Canelo, his victory for me does not reflect what I saw in the ring).

I think I had it 7-5 for Canelo, maybe 8-4. I remember watching the fight and having no clue that it was a robbery until I logged onto this message board.

Canelo landed more power punches in 9 rounds.

I don't score fights, I just get an overall idea of who I thought won or lost.

I saw #2 as a close fight, a draw or 1 point either way.

Canelo was lineal and held a belt, so wouldn't call him challenger. Not that I agree with "you gotta take it from the champ" anyway.

Wait, but what belt did Alvarez have in the second fight with GGG? No belt, in that match there were the WBA and WBC titles at stake (and the minor IBO) all owned by GGG, plus there was the vacant Ring Magazine world title. Canelo was not defending any title in that match, instead GGG was defending 3 titles and the other was vacant. These are facts, not opinions.

Moreover, this rematch was right after the first fight between Canelo and GGG, which ended in a controversial draw, GGG had clearly won (also for different media).

Canelo won the lineal and WBC titles when he beat Cotto. Canelo vacated the WBC belt but was still the lineal champ.
