The match with Cotto was in 2015, three years before the rematch with GGG. In GGG - Canelo 2 the Mexican was not defending any belt while GGG was at the 20th defense of the WBA world middleweight title, won in 2010, and also the Kazakh had been robbed of a clear victory against Canelo in the previous match. These are simply facts.

Yeah and it's simply a fact that Canelo was the lineal champion when he fought GGG

This has nothing to do with the fact that GGG was the middleweight world champion and defended 2 world titles while Canelo was the challenger and did not defend belts in that match.

Having said that I'll stop here, it makes no sense for me to always repeat the same things (real facts indeed). I judge boxing, boxers and matches objectively, then obviously I calmly accept that other people have different opinions than mine, in fact, it's even better, otherwise you know how boring it would be if we all thought the same way? But when you don't accept the reality of things and you only speak to defend your idols for me it makes no sense to discuss. Without any negativity towards you, have a good day.

Bro, I'm not fighting you, and I love GGG, I'm just pointing out that Canelo was also a champion when he fought GGG because he was the guy who beat the guy.

Ah, he had been stripped by the WBC?

He was lineal in any case. The man who beat the man. And had never lost his belt in the ring. But doesn't matter for me anyhow, since I think that thinking is meaningless. The man who wins the most rounds wins. Easy as that.

And yes, Canelo had not held the WBC world title for a long time, he had won it with Cotto in 2015 and had defended it only once, in 2016 with.....Amir Khan, then in the following match he returned to super welterweight to defend the WBO world title against Smith. The WBC world middleweight title already belonged to GGG in their first match, in 2017.

I like your relaxing message. No problem, as I said I talk about boxing with everyone and it's fine to have different opinions, the important thing is always to have a civil and respectful discussion, to yours :beer-toast1:

To me the result of these two fights doesn't make sense unless you understand

The first fight was a popular young challenger going up against the smashing machine, the Champion with a capital C, Golovkin. Many people (me included to be fair) thought the GGG would be much too powerful and that the flat-footed Canelo would be pulverized by GGG before the end of the fight. The fact that Canelo fought a mobile fight and had his moments where he landed thumping shots against Golovkin, and ended the fight game and intact, was a kind of a surprise to everybody. Often in boxing you have fights where one guy does much better than people expect, and as a result people overestimate that guy's effectiveness.

    Fact is,

He should have had the W. The 10-2 scorecard by Byrd was outrageous. But people like Shadow and others made some arguments that it doesn't matter if the one guy is backpeddling, if he's using the backpeddling to land big thumping shots. And he DID land some big thumping shots despite his retreating ways. OK.

The second fight was marked by Golovkin's team going out of their way to rile Canelo up. You can see that Sanchez especially got under Canelo's skin. This was obviously calculated to make Canelo angry enough to try and come head-on at GGG. The tactic worked. Canelo did come head on to Golovkin, who reversed the previous Canelo strategy of letting Golovkin come to him. GGG was the "ring general" this time, and

. Canelo had fixed his gas tank for this fight and the bout was much more action packed than the first. Yet I saw Golovkin win even more clearly in the second fight, landing not only the harder punches but more punches.

    BUT the

was Canelo pressing forward against the Golovkin juggernaut and often making him give ground. Canelo also showed that he has a fantastic chin by eating some monstrous punches. For some reason this fact has overshadowed the actual punchstats and the actual damage landed. The fact is,

and should have been the winner.

    In my opinion

, not to even mention the case that Canelo nearly always gets preferential scoring due to his star status. The "he had ring generalship" argument worked for Canelo in fight #1 and was ignored when it applied to Golovkin. The "he pressed the action" argument was ignored for Golovkin in fight #1 but unveiled as a revelation in Canelo's favour in fight #2.

    I feel it's unfair that

and never got a single win off of two fights that he clearly won.

    No wonder he was salty.

To be honest, I didn’t score this fight the first time around, but I had the feeling that GGG did a little more. Canelo started well, but GGG was landing more shots, especially in the second half of the fight, and had the better jab. On the other hand, Canelo was coming forward, landing harder shots to the body, and overall looked more aggressive. This is one of those fights where the overall perception depends on what you value more. I need to rewatch the fight, and then I’ll share my scorecard here.

I understand that a lot of the stuff that people thought was landing for Canelo was picked off by Golovkin's elbows.
