Fighters who would have benefited from being more agressive

what are some good or great fighters who could have benefited from fighting more aggressively at times? Guys who were perhaps a bit too cautious at times.

 

Gerry Penalosa, Nicolino Locche and Wladimir Klitschko.

 

Jiro Watanabe, waits a bit too much at times.

 

Some of you other old farts like me will surely remember this guy in his big fights; Juan Laporte.

Geez--can clearly recall yelling at the tv watching his fights. C'mon man.......the gas pedal is the one on the right. It hasn't moved in decades. Let those hands go.

He had the whiskers. The rest of his game was solid. Some of those fights were there for the taking. But lets face it an important category in the sport is the ability to capitalize on windows. The greats sure do not require much of a window to exploit. But then you have the Laporte's of the sport that have opportunities but are poor at taking any kind of advantage of those windows.

 

And i would also add Chris John, seriously though,when he lets those hands go like vs Enoki he's actually good at it,but didn't really risk it much again..

Great pics. Especially Medel and Nelson; they both fell into patterns of just boxing within themselves and glossing over rounds without actually doing much. Medel especially was pretty bad for doing this.

I remember thinking that Futch trained guys were great at doing the opposite. They'd box for entire rounds with a disinterested manner, collecting and boxing within themselves but they'd manage to nick the rounds by doing so. Mike McCallum was particularly good at this.

LaPorte was a fine fighter. Barry McGuigan put on the best performances of his career against him and Eusebio Pedroza. But,yes,you're right that Juan could have added a bit more to his offensive arsenal.
