Would prime Tony Bellew have had any decent chance against the top 10 throughout the era

Povetkin, Whyte, Ajagba, Ortiz, Chisora, Joyce, Hrgovic, Parker, Jennings, etc

Refer to the Haye and Usyk fights

Maybe against Ajagba who is lower tier. I think Povetkin, Ortiz, Chisora, Joyce and Parker all stop him. I think Jennings, Hrgovic and Whyte definitely win on the cards clearly.

Ajagba seems most beatable, the others I would favour.

Of all of the name opponents Usyk has fought as a pro he KO’d Bellew fastest and most definitively. He took longer to stop a couple of cruiser journeymen early on and he started the Bellew fight in sparring mode. Bellew’s level at cruiser was his 50-50 with Masternak.

Definitely. His mobility, hand speed, and experience would be a lot of trouble for plenty of the top 10 heavyweights of the era.

It also helps that many of the top 10 heavyweights of the era were usually inexperienced and overweight, which would make fighting a smaller and more elusive target like a Bellew even more of a challenge.

From the guys you listed I’d favor Bellew over guys like Joyce, Bakole, Chisora, Hrgovic, Ajagba, and Jennings.

A fight between Bellew and Parker could go either way, since Parker is unpredictable when it comes to being motivated. I also think the same for Whyte, who also is very unpredictable when it comes to showing up motivated and in shape.

I wouldn’t favor Bellew over a prime Ortiz or a prime Poverkin.

Depends which era? But with the fighters you mentioned, I'd only back him against Ajagba, everyone else too big for him. Even I think Jennings would outpoint him.

Hard to gauge with the fights against Haye as Haye was completely shot.

    Mostly agree.

I'd favour him over Ortiz, though (I've always thought Ortiz was very overrated for what he's actually accomplished, though).

I wouldn't be surprised if Bellew beat a prime Wilder, too (again, though, I don't rate any version of Wilder as highly as some do).

Hrgovic on the cards (especially "clearly") is a brave one considering he's poor when it comes to points (to such an extent he barely squeezed past Zhang on cards, and Zhang is almost incapable of winning without a KO).

Bellew was undefeated at CW and in his fights up at HW prior to losing to Usyk. He was much better suited to CW than LHW and much better fighter at that weight: 12-0-0 (10K KOs) going into the Usyk fight

Even though he's a twat, Bellew had a vicious left hook and a very high ring IQ

I remember someone saying to me on here before Bellew vs Makabu (I picked Makabu to win via KO) that Bellew didn't possess the power to knockout Makabu and I replied that not only did he do so but he could knock him clean out if he caught him with that left hook of his

He was a legit KO artist

He always had a nasty left hook

I doubt it. He only beat a completely washed David Haye unless I'm forgetting someone.
