    Light Flyweight Kanamu Sekama
    A 20-year-old boxer from Tokyo who is one hell of a puncher with 9 wins (8KOs), he's climbing the rankings like crazy and could well dethrone Kenshiro Teraji in the next few years.

    He knows Kenshiro well, having sparred with him and helped him prepare for his title defence against Hekkie Budler.

    Kanamu Sakama trains in Adachi (Tokyo district), at the World Sports Boxing Gym, and regularly sparring with Junto Nakatani (who will box in February for the WBC bantamweight world title after winning the WBO flyweight world title defended twice, then the WBO Super Flyweight world title defended once before moving up to bantamweight).

    Kanamu Sakama is ranked 3rd in the Japanese national light flyweight rankings, and has already won the Japanese national title.

    Kanamu Sakama is ranked 9th by the WBA currently held by Kenshiro, 15th for the title currently held by Adrian Curiel, 14th by the IBO which is currently vacant.

    He reminds me of Ryoichi Taguchi in the Light Flyweight division, who gave Naoya Inoue a very good fight.

    The boy he fought was flattened by Miel Fajardo with one shot in round 1.

    The Japanese boy looks like he has that effecient precise technical Japanese style with power.

    They might meet in the future.Edge goes to the Japanese for his skills and looks big for the weight.

    Alway baffles me how someone can get excited about some small Willy Wanker leprechaun. Last time I weighed 49kg I was in 3rd or 4th grade.
    The only exception to this is Inoue.

    Sorry to "bump" a presumably abandoned thread, but it's been reported that Sakama passed away, aged 20. No cause of death has been given but there is speculation that he may have taken his own life.

    Gets more "WTF" - He was supposed to fight on Monday. He was pulled from the fight yesterday, on health grounds, and today his father posted than he had passed away. Fair to say it is his dad given communications with him Mr Morikawa, Kanamu's former promoter.

    According to fightnews.com, Sakamu couldn't make weight for his JBC Japanese Youth light flyweight title defense. He is "said to have committed suicide as he couldn’t make good condition to fight and had his bout cancelled, of which he might have too seriously felt guilty."

    This is very sad.

    I feel the same about heavyweight slobs. Sucking wind after 5 rounds, averaging 30 punches a round. Yeah, give me the leprechauns any day. Usyk is the exception, but as you know, he came from Cruiser.

    Lol fun fact - the USA has the same amount of current heavyweights in that one division alone for one country, as the whole world has for light flyweight.
