How Long Does Jerry Quarry Remain Unbeaten, Against Marciano's Opponents?

LaStarza could beat him, remember, the reason he ended up losing lots while still young was because Marciano ruined him.
And if he gets past LaStarza, Walcott undoubtedly beats him, especially the version who was up for it against Marciano.

 

Given the same breaks and luck, he could win the course. 49-0.

I would pick dozens of heavyweights to do the same. There could always be a fluke loss, but generally, dozens upon dozens could run that soft gauntlet.

Could be interesting.someone like rex lane who could hit hard and was strong would be in with a shot . Quarry liked getting involved in punch ups instead of using his brain.

 

I'd pick Ezzard Charles to beat Quarry in a UD , Walcott ran hot and cold so a Quarry win would not surprise me.
The old Mongoose? he could get a decision win as well .

 

Rex Layne was not strong. Dempsey was a camp adjunct at one time and complained about how weak Rex was. He was a soft 200 pounds. Tough as nails, big heart. Not much else. Quarry would tear him apart.

 

Walcott, Charles or Moore get him. Rex Layne might be able to.

 

Quarry should go 49-0 against Marcianos SOS. He was considerably better than Marciano. Theres only a few of those fights he could possibly lose. 55 Moores the toughest one. But Moore at that time couldn't beat Patterson and Quarry was about that level.

Layne and LaStarza are underrated in the context of their era but as your toughest prime opponents they are not.

 

I grew up watching the Bellflower Bomber and I really respect him but this is all overrating Quarry quite a bit. It's easy to excuse Quarry's losses to Ali and Frazier and even Norton and Ellis because they were top notch opponents. However, Jerry also lost to Eddie Machen and George Chuvalo. To think that a man who lost to Chuvalo couldn't and wouldn't lose to some of Marciano's opponents along the way is absurd.

 

Old Louis jabs his face to pieces. If Quarry doesn't rush and stands to counter punch he doesn't drain old Joe quickly enough and gets outboxed or a doctor spares his face from more cuts.

Walcott and Charles bamboozle him.
