I know that Liston is the more methodical and "skilled" guy, but if Williams could draw him into a brawl and hurt him, George would have him out. Sonny won't make it.

Foreman has the strength, skill, and will to impose all of his assets on Sonny and take him out.

Pretty much… SL said Williams almost had him and Foreman was just better in every way so he’d get’m IMO.

I look at the Lyle fight template and Liston was more technical even when hurt his style stayed consistent.

If Liston had Foreman in the same trouble that Lyle did, Sonny would’ve certainly finished George imo.

Liston could box better than Foreman but he could also box and slug at the same time, as and when required.

If Foreman could get over Sonny, I can only see it by way of overwhelming Liston over, say, the first 4-5 rounds.

Basically, if George can’t do that, it’s Sonny’s fight imo - and I would lean toward Liston not being put out in 4-5 rounds - so a Liston win for me.

I favor Liston for reasons I've stated forever. He's technically better and throws much shorter, tighter punches. I don't personally subscribe to the heart and chin doubts (the Ali rematch stinks). He showed he could scale back a little and chase after countering opportunities in one of those Williams bouts i.e. he was multi faceted, George not so much. George can only beat Liston one way where as Sonny potentially has two avenues.

Having said all that i wouldn't be surprised to see Foreman win. He's a force of nature at his best and he's very proven in firefights that went to the absolute brink.

Liston was better than Lyle in every aspect except getting shut out by every half decent boxer he faced.

Foreman early or Liston late but since Williams was able to hurt Liston, Foreman who is harder puncher than Williams, had two hands power, was stronger and had iron chin then Foreman would keep Liston down after 2 or 3 knockdowns.

But if Liston made it to round 6 or 7 there is no chance of Foreman catching him and beating him.

I honestly don't see how posters use the Williams fight to argue in favour of Foreman. Those are examples of how Liston could deal with an overly aggressive slugger and turn the tables on them. Williams had very similar dimensions and punching power to Foreman even if he was overall inferior.
Perhaps Liston knocks him out in the 5th or 6th instead of obliterating him in two rounds which I suppose is enough time for Foreman to turn the tide in his favour. Hard to call but I'd go with Liston.
