Southpaws have always done decent vs CA. Trout.. Close fight. Lara... could have been scored for him Saunders.. won some rounds before Canelo stopped him. Size wise Crawford probably isn't that far off those three guys either actually. None of them are BIG, tall & trick southpaws.
Canelo can defo outbox Canelo - but it will be a question whether he can take his power and how effective Crawford can maintain his stamina at SMW as well as he did at WW. My guess is that he will switch it up and try and confuse Canelo like Bivol and Mayweather did.
He has no choice but to fight as a southpaw. He’s not that effective as an orthodox. With the exception of the jab and occasionally straight left hand to the body, he doesn’t throw as many straight punches as Floyd, Lara, Bivol, and quite frankly, he’s not as elusive as Floyd and Lara. Madrimov, Mean Machine, and even Kell Brook landed some good left hooks and straight right hands, but they weren’t consistent enough and weren’t on Canelo’s level as a boxer. I think Crawford will do better than Charlo did, but I see Canelo working him down with good head movement and feints being defensively responsible while baiting Crawford into exchanges, and I do think Crawford will not have a choice but to exchange with him. Crawford is simply not as slick as people make him out to be.
Both are overrated gimps who spent so long trying to claim they a P4P greats without doing anything to prove such meanwhile little old Usyk snuck in a took that title which will not be given away. Crawford can lose and just claim it's not his weight. Canelo could lose and it would be no surprise because he lost to a 40 year old midget in Floyd.
Canelo's strategy would be to punch a hole trough crawford's body. So I don't think it would matter very much if he goes southpaw or orthodox. Canelo's strategy would succeed or fail independently of that. I would be surprised if he uses another strategy. Being the heavier man it looks like the right strategy to me.
