He was the definition of coming out of nowhere and disappearing into nowhere. After losing to a green Joe Brown, drawing to Sandy Saddler, losing to Sonny Boy West and beating Wallace Bud Smith,he gained a massive upset win beating Percy Bassett, despite losing the rematch,he would immediately fought a drained Ike Williams and absolutely batter him until the 14th round. Carter would later go on a run and fought names like: W: Del Flanagan W: Enrique Bolanos L:Art Aragon W:Art Aragon(ii) W:Lauro Salas L:Lauro Salas (ii) W: Lauro Salas (III) L: Armand Savoie W: George Araujo W: Armand Savoie (ii) L: Paddy Demarco W: Charley Riley W:Glen Flanagan W: Paddy Demarco D:Tony Demarco Then after losing to Orlando Zulueta,he would lose his title to a long time rival of Wallace Bud Smith, ending his reign,he still managed to crack a good win vs future welterweight champion Don Jordan, but he's still fading and starts to lose a lot of fights, his final fight being at 1960 vs unknown Luis Garduno. His notable achievements are becoming the first 3-time lightweight world champion, obtaining it vs Williams, then losing it to Salas and regaining it in a rematch, then he would lose again to Paddy and avenge it via 15 round stoppage. After his career,we will not hear much from Carter,as he died from a heart attack at 70,1994.
In all seriousness, he is criminally underrated. I read a lot about him when i first got into boxing but then i forgot about him later. I guess the lightweight division has a few notable names that overshadow everyone else; Joe Gans, Benny Leonard and Roberto Duran. What would you say is the best available fight film of Carter?
By quality and performance, his upset vs Percy Bassett. It's a shame we never got a prime Ike Williams vs prime Jimmy Carter, that Williams Carter destroyed has to cut a ton of weight, but it's no excuse as Ike should've vacated the title already then.
There's no footage of Ike Williams vs Jimmy Carter though unfortunately, and it's a bit ironic that despite being slightly more popular than Carter, Williams has less fight footages of 7,while Carter had 9.
Seriously though it's hard to search for Carter's fights when every second you scrolled, videos of his presidency days showed up instead.

Jimmy Carter was a terrific fighter. Aggressive and hard-hitting. He was still fighting when I began reading the boxing mags. In 1956 he got knocked out by a fighter I'm interested in, Larry Boardman. Does anyone know anything about 1950s lightweight Larry Boardman?
