What are the most shocking, unexpected first-round knockouts in boxing history?

Let’s get Michael Nunn KO 1 Sumbu Kalambay out of the way. This one might take the cake, but it isn’t singular in super surprising first-round stoppages.

I’ve got a couple more that come to mind:

Troy Dorsey KO 1 Alfred Rangel. Dorsey, generally a high-volume fighter with feather fists, won on conditioning most of the time. But he took the vacant IBF title at feather in jaw-dropping fashion given that this seemed almost guaranteed to be a distance fight given Troy’s chin and lack of power.

Bonecrusher Smith KO 1 Tim Witherspoon. The Bonecrusher getting a quick win should be a shocker given his proven power, but Tim had all but shut him out 18 months earlier and wasn’t known for going down easy. Witherspoon was in a funk over his out-of-ring contractual battles with Don King, but we also have to give Smith his props here for coming out in a go-for-broke effort that paid off.

    What are some others?

Couple that don't get mentioned anymore.

Badou Jack KO1 to Derek Edwards was certainly a shock. And, given how Jack's career has played out, it was certainly a total one-off. He's known for his good chin across multiple divisions.

Andrzey Fonfara KO1 to Joe Smith. Smith ended up being a pretty good banger. But at the time of the fight, Fonfara was coming off wins over Nathan Cleverly, Glen Johnson, Julio Cesar Chavez Jr., Gabriel Campillo, and had gone 12 hard rounds in a title fight with Adonis Stevenson (who was known for his power). I just remember being totally shocked by the first round KO.

Iran Barkley KO1 to Nigel Benn. Nobody called that. NOBODY. They're lying if they say they did.;)

Ali-Liston II has to be up there.

Liston-Patterson II, not so much. I still think if they fought 1,000 times, Sonny probably ices Floyd in one 1,000 times.

Juan Meza KO1 Jaime Garza - Garza was an up-and-coming phenom at 122, with the WBC title aleady secured, and he was being showcased on CBS against Meza, a slow, ponderous, if somewhat powerful and durable contender who had already been overwhelmed in six in his only other title try, against Gomez a couple years before. This was to be Garza's entre' into the big time, and after he floored Meza in the opening moments, it looked good for him. Then he walks into a left hook, and that was it. He never really recovered from that fight.

Boy I remember that one, I'd been keeping an eye on Garza as he was blasting guys outta there. Problem was he threw everything with such bad intentions, trying to KO everyone with one shot. And you're right, he was never the same....

I remember it was on the undercard of Bill Costello- Saoul Mamby. Maybe it was Costello-Haley, but pretty sure it was Mamby.

Hurricane Carter v Emile Griffith. MW vs WW, I know, but nobody did that to Emile.

Fireman Jim Flynn vs Jack Dempsey. Whatever the reality of it, it's a shocker.
