I think everyone figured it ended pretty early one way or the other given their styles, defensive liabilities and power.
Booker T. Word KO1 Anthony Hembrick. Hembrick had been the Cap of the Olympic team. He did a dance in the ring before the fight lasted longer than the fight. They choreographed it. This content is protected
Pernell Whitaker KO1 Juan Nazario Jimmy Carruthers vs Vic Towell (first fight) Thomas Davis vs Kendall Holt Roger Gutierrez vs Rocky Hernandez
How could I forget Gerrie Coetzee KO 1 Leon Spinks? This is Leon post Ali II. He’s only 7-1-1 but he has a win and loss vs. Ali. Coetzee was relatively unknown and certainly didn’t have the ‘bionic right hand’ reputation yet: he was 21-0 with I think 10 or 11 KOs and had gone the distance in more of his best wins like over Kallie Knoetze, Mike Schutte plus Ibar Arrington and Randy Stephens.
Tex Cobb who took everything from peak Holmes, Shavers, Norton and Dokes was crushed by journeyman (7-4 and coming off a 2nd ko loss to Cruiserweight Bash Ali) Dee Colier. Colier did actually become a solid fighter with cuts win over undefeated future fringe contender Alex Garcia, 2 wins over the dangerous Mark Willis and former WAA heavyweight champion Monte Masters! Cobb fought on for another 20 fights not suffering any more stoppage losses though competition was pretty poor, a close win over a shot Leon Spinks was the only hl.
McLarnin KO 1 Young Corbett III... Greatest first round KO in history.. considering how good Corbett was & what he went on to do.
Great picks by some very knowledgable guys .... How about ... Leonard KO Price ? Hawk Price was supposed rio give Ray a tough test after he fought so tough against then champs Cuevas and Palomino Greb KO Meehan Benn KO Barkley Flynn KO Dempsey Have one more but I lost it ... will circle back...
I think that Joey Giardello stopping Del Flanagan in one round was extremely unexpected and I don't think that it would happen again if they fought another 100 times. I would love to see that fight. Buddy McGirt KO1 Howard Davis was a surprise to me. I was in Las Vegas that day and would have bet heavily on the over, not matter what it was. I remember sitting down at a bar in the old Stardust and ordering a beer and the fight being over by the time I got it.
