Joshua gets stopped. Hrgovic is too durable, and hits hard enough to hurt him. People will talk about Hrgovic's stamina but AJs stamina has always been an issue for him aswell. With Hrgovic it's more of a pacing issue. Joshua's the more well rounded skill wise but at this point I just don't see him being able to box well enough for the full twelve to get a win here.
This is an impossible question because we really don't know how much AJ has left at this point. He could be so completely finished with a cracked chin and no fight left in him, such that any half-serious contender beats him..... Or he could have just been really unlucky getting hit hard early against Dubois, in which case he could technically still be able to perform close to his prime level.
I think the fight comes down to two questions: 1. How much does Joshua have left? 2. What will be Hrgovic's mental and physical condition when he steps into the ring?
Before the Dubois performance I’d have said AJ has the fundamentals and discipline to bust Hrgovic up and force a TKO. Now, I honestly have no idea what’s left of AJ.
Joshua, the almighty force who collapsed after the first punch he received against Dubois, while Hrgovic dominated the fight until he ran out of stamina. Joshua doesn't dare fight Hrgovic because he uses the excuse that the fight doesn't bring in money. He has nothing to lose anyway because he doesn't own any titles. The only thing left is his ego and the claim that he is still the best...
Let's be realistic here - Joshua doesn't need to fight, and Hrgovic isn't going to enhance his resume much... If the money isn't great (which it wouldn't be) then it's a realistic reason to look elsewhere. Hrgovic has a great chin but only decent power and his stamina is horrible... Joyce's career showed that a great chin alone doesn't get you all the way - and Joyce had power and a decent engine on top of a great chin, Hrgovic doesn't have as many tools to go "most of the way" as Joyce did. In other words, Hrgovic is a win that might well not even age very well.
Toss up really. If AJ can avoid the Hrgovich's big punches, he wins for me. Better foot work, better finisher, bigger power. The problem is he can be bought, and he takes an age to recover. Would probably be his best way of getting back into the title mix against a guy who has a couple of "name" wins but looks beatable most times out.
If he fought Ngannou, Franklin and Wallin why would Hrgovic be a bad name on his resume? I understand that you don't think highly of Hrgovic but there are worse fighters than him that Joshua has fought.
Ngannou was hyped after nearly embarrassing Fury (and the sport). Arguably both Ngannou and Wallin might've been trying to goad Fury into fighting - didn't work of it was. You're right, Joshua's fought plenty at that level and plenty higher - and at his age and declining it could be a "why not" and rebuild... I would've thought he'd still favour similar level fights that'd bring more money (shot Whyte or shot Joyce, for example)
Joyce and Whyte are from a bigger market, they would bring more profit and I absolutely agree with that...
Definitely - and if he wants a fight around that level... Well, we saw there's not a huge amount between Hrgovic and Joyce, Whyte would be similar again (with a bit of intrigue as a rematch having fought as green pro's).
And Fury is a flat slobby bum who struggled with a 0-0 amateur. Easy to point at low moments as if they're representative, right?
