Hard to compare chins when many of those who had unbelievable chins weren't actually that great of fighters.

Well it's such a weak era, so it's hard to judge

Ali was saved from a certain KO loss by the bell and his cornerman cheating against a 22lb lighter Euro level guy who was roughly the same size as Bivol in the strongest ever era so that argument holds little weight.

    Ali
    Foreman
    Chuvalo
    Vitali
    Wilson
    McCall
    Thomas
    Cobb
    Holmes
    Tyson
    Mercer
    Tua
    Holyfield

    Etc....

Hard to say honestly but considering Joyce literally has 0 defence keeps coming forward and is remarkably slow I'd say he could be top 20.

I haven't seen enough of Hrgovic.

The 0 era makes it hard to rate chins based on how often a fighter has been stopped or dropped. Given how Kabayel, Parker and Hrgovic all came back from a knockdown to beat Zhang I'll probably guess they all have better chins than Joyce.

If a HW from this era had the GOAT chin we'd probably have no idea. We just know it isn't AJ.

Joyce got hit way more than them before a knockdown

Still he was effected more and didn't bounce back. Guys with goat chins don't go down in a few rounds.

Still don't consider the Big Bang KD of Hrgovic a legit KD. Cuffing back of the mind shot which was more a pull down than a knockdown

He was never knocked down in the amateurs or WSB either despite mixing at the highest level against many of the elite SHWs. That's very rare for any amateur SHW and most have been KO'd or stopped at least once if not more

Then we have him sparring Wlad, The Dosser, Haye, Dubois, Wardley among many others and never going down against any of them. The first four are some of the hardest punchers in HW/CW history

Then in actual pro fights vs Big Bang, Dubois, Big Joe we've seen him eat everything they could throw at him, especially the first two. Big Bang legit one punch KO'd Big Joe Joyce, dropped J-Park x 2 despite barely letting his hands go, and legit dropped Kabayel too

Big Joe has been dropped x 2 and KO'd, including getting stopped in the amateurs a few times, but his face is literally a punch magnet and he gets caught flush by everything you throw at him over and over again so he's literally putting his punch resistance through the most stringent testing process.

It's hard to say but when you look at how much punches Joyce takes competing in a era were the average heavyweight is like 235 pounds.....

    To be fair:

Cooper was typically listed as 6 1/2 slash 187cm. You could also mention the likes of Tua, Tyson, Chuvalo, or Frazier who were shorter than Bivol, but clearly made for heavyweight. Rare breed, granted.

Cooper weighted in at 188lbs v 202 of Ali.

Ali was 24. Him taking some of those shots from Frazier, Norton, Lyle, Shavers, Foreman, and Foster, more than make up for that misstep I reckon, though naturally he was helluva good at riding shots as well.

The 4th round was debunked as popular myth, no? 5 seconds of delay max.

I'm not talking about height. I'm talking about weight and Cooper weighed 185.5lbs to Ali's 207lbs in that fight

We know Ali had a great chin but he still got dropped like a sack of potatoes and saved from a certain KO loss by a 22lb lighter Cooper in the strongest HW era ever by a combination of the bell coming to his rescue and corner shenanigans

Big Joe Joyce is eating every shot and bomb flush from 230-300lbs giants and often walking right through them all night like they're nothing

Hrgovic, as I explained in an earlier post, has never legitimately been down amateur or pro despite sharing a ring with a whole bunch of some of the hardest punching HWs of all time, whether it be in the gym or a sanctioned fight, and taking tons of flush bombs from Big Bang and Dubois and many in quick succession. They have excellent beards, period, regardless of the era.

Ya, not questioning Joyce and Hrgovic. Both have absolute granite for chins, and I don't consider the Zhang knockdown legit for Filip. Despite my views on size in boxing, a granite chin on a big man will always be more granite than granite chin on a small man, though they tend to get hit more flush as a result of their size.

    Imagine Joyce rubber-necking shots.

Croatian clearly has a better chin than Joyce, I know that.
Joyce's was always a myth even if it wasn't bad. Zhang destroyed him.
Joyce Wilder is a good fight to make now.
