I think this will be a good matchup (if it gets made) One Time looked good after a long layoff (no disrespect to Brock Jarvis either he was just out of his depth) keiths footwork was decent & i think he’l trouble tim with movement, but we know Tim can bang.. Hopefully both sit down on some shots! i think Keith’s experience edges this one but, in what could potentially be a decent fight…
The years of inactivity might end up helping Thurman in a weird way. In terms of him not having the wear and tear of many fighters his age. He'd probably be competitive with anyone in the division (and tbh I think he'd beat Fundora - but that's mainly because I don't rate Fundora). Favour him to beat Tszyu by decision.
You could be right Thurman did look sharp against Jarvis but in all honesty Brock Jarvis is not a good fighter at all he is not even close to being a top Australian fighter on the domestic scene.
I didn’t watch Tim’s most recent fight but apparently in the early going he still got tagged a bit. Is that right? Excellent fighter but I’ve always wished that he would improve his defence.
No, he didn’t get tagged mate. Barely a punch was thrown in round 1 before Tszyu took control through rounds 2-4. He wore a couple of jabs but that happens to every fighter. But he never got “tagged” or forced to retreat.
thurman is as good as he can be. different, no question. but he is a different fighter to his younger self.i think he is areal challenge and interesting test to most guys at the weight. he hsould have moved up earlier and should have found a time to get back into the mix post covid. BUTT i still think TT would be able to walk himdown. always felt thurman was pretty weak to a fighter like him. Sidentoe: it's what im saying over the years. the fighters who just 'bottle it' and call off fights or refused to go into camps injured seem to last way longer. robin ried was saying the same about calzaghe. he fought 4 world title fights in a year with a chest infection and elbow injuries all the way through but...the show must go on. and was walking injured for years. called joe "Sick Note" about the times he called fights off. 4 years later reid is scrapping for a wbf belt while calzaghe is filling out stadia. now not saying Rob Reid was better than calzaghe had all things gone right. just saying that in a sport like this, long term injuries are not career enders but they are only career enders because people need money or glory or even. FWJ is better after a year off than the PBF who was defending constantly. i'm coming back from a broken ankle over 5 years back. as a P.E. teacher i constantly fought through the pain or never allowed it rest. did surgery, had a 2 months not standing...i can run again. time off, rest. recuperation it's not laziness or anything its just sport and civilian worklife just will not allow you to take time off.
Yep and I listened to Teddy Atlas this week and he was right with what he said about the first round that Tim wanted to eat a few jabs get his confidence back that he can take a hit.
