Bump. I’d go with Jones to probably stop Barkley, but I wouldn’t be surprised if he gave Jones some uncomfortable moments early on or maybe even drops him, he’s more defensively open to being timed by power punches over the top than Toney is, and Jones sometimes gets uncomfortable with pressure, sometimes backs up looking to defend, whereas Toney stayed more composed when guys attacked him, he’d catch the punch, slip, counter with his own etc, Toney is a lot better at countering in the pocket and seeing big punches coming therefore is much adapted to fighting pressure fighters. That being said, Jones had the power to stop Barkley in his tracks and get the volume down to his ideal which I think he does and takes control of the fight mid-rounds after uncomfortable moments early on.
Bad match for Barkley. Jones would pick him apart and stop him before too long. I will say however that Barkley would show heart and might get off a few decent shots but that’s about it
Matchup too horrible you can't even use Barkley's performance vs Hearns to defend him here. Hearns had a thinner body, twig like legs and a bit more patient approach vs Barkley which would backfire when he left that single, small opening to that left hook. I give Barkley a pass to trouble Roy early on because of his likeliness to showboat, but round 3 and further I can't see Barkley even catching him a bit, Roy would shift, switch and move from all angles around Barkley while punching him he might form a pi at that point.
Absolutely. Roy Jones's lefthook was a certified knockout punch at '60 and '68. His right wasn't too far behind.
