I did this at airliners.net about the most famous airlines of the world right now, and so inspired myself to do a similar list here. The greatest or best boxer by letter of last name. We can disagree, in fact, that is what this is about. At Airliners.net, I had American for A, Cargolux for C, Fed Ex for F, Qatar Airways for Q and Zero G (questionable whether they are an airline or not, as they only fly charters that take off and land at Miami Airport, one hour rides basically) for Z. Some people said "but isnt Air France more famous than AMerican, Cathay Pacific more famous than Cargolux, Finnair."....you get the grid....and i have to admit at least in Z's case they were right since there is an actual airline named Zipair that does fly actual routes and to many airports in Asia. So arguing is part of the fun! So, without further due, here is my list of greatest boxers ever by first letter of last name. You can also include women boxers. I'll also add my candidates in parenthesis. A. Muhammad Ali (his daughter Laila, Henry Armstrong and Alexis Arguello are candidates too) B. Wilfred Benitez C. I think as humans we are biased towards people from the era in which we grew up , forgetting some of the newer people and, specially, some of the older ones. For example, I listed Ali, whose last fight was in 1981 and I became a fan in 1982, roughly still Ali's era. And Benitez. I listed Luis Ibarra and forgot Naouya Inouye who is unquestionably better. And Jack Britton is definitely a guy I should have considered for letter B!
Are you suggesting I was around in the 1890's because I selected Frank Erne and Bob Fitzsimmons? ;-) Seriously, in general I agree with you. I've done extensive research to support my all time rankings, so know a little bit about great fighters from the 1890's to the current day, and generally rank based on dominance in their own era, rather than on the basis of giving preference to some eras over others.
