Comeback Foreman after his gruelling fight against Holyfield, takes on a little known but gaining rep as a hard hitter, Earnie Shaver s. Kind of like his fight with Stewart. My prediction.. An awful fight for George, who has to take some sickening shots. But Shavers stamina fades after an hectic 8 rounds and George connects with a short, powerful right uppercut . Shavers goes down hard ,he tries to rise but stumbles in to the ropes, the ref waves his arms.. fight over.
No, even for older Foreman Shavers hits the deck early and stay there. Shavers never had anywhere near the chin to deal with much of George's power. Sad fight for Earnie.
In my opinion Foreman whoops him. Bigger, stronger, better boxer. Shavers had power and youth but Old Foreman was as durable as a hill and knew how to play a mix of defence and jab.
I have no doubt that George would get hit with some painful shots. But I think his cross armed defense and conservative punching method helps him to weather the storm and wear shavers down around the 7th.
I think it'd be similar to the Cooney fight, Foreman gets hit by a big slug once or twice and makes sure he doesn't feel it again by putting Shavers on the mat. I wouldn't expect George to let Earnie go past 2.
Agreed. Ironically Shavers has a better punchers chance vs the young Foreman. But not the old version. And even the young one beats him.
I keep thinking of that left hook Shavers blitzed Lyle with. George would get mightily rocked. but Earnie just didn't have the stamina. Foreman in 8.
Not saying Shavers’ chin was granite but I think his stamina issues and/or lack of ideal conditioning have become somewhat confused with the absolute quality of his chin. Anyway, Big George has got this one way or another. Maybe some frights for Foreman along the way, maybe not, but ultimately it’s Foreman who emerges from the smoke victorious. I could see a 2 round blowout for Foreman or some give and take before him securing a stoppage/KO by rounds 5-6.
Earnie fights low. Always did. You need an excellant defense to avoid those uppercuts with both hands George threw. He could throw them off his lead foot and while moving his feet. Earnie is not absorbing George Foreman uppercuts and his defense is nowhere close to dealing with those punches. Prime Foreman would have shoved Earnie all over the ring and Shavers would be doing nothing but trying to regain his footing & balance.
