Interesting fight for me although I would prefer to see Ennis - Lopez first (it's been talked about for a while now and if Lopez beats Barboza it will probably be talked about even more) and Ortiz - Murtazaliev (I would really like to lose Ortiz against a tough guy like the Russian).
Vergil has better experience and victories for me and is naturally a bit bigger than Ennis but Vergil can be outboxed. Close fight can see this going either way but will go for a close Vergil points win but would not surprise me to see Ennis get the nod. Ennis is a good and talented fighter he just needs to fight better opposition - possibly move up to SWW, as the WW division is super dull ATM.
Would be a good fight, would like to see it happen at some point. Right now I'm favouring Ortiz. He cuts off the ring really well and is defensively responsible when doing so and draws leads he can counter when pressuring and I think that could work well against Ennis who likes to lead and can be countered because of that. Ortiz comes from behind to score a stoppage in a competitive fight.
I am not sure I agreed with this assessment. I think there are more holes in Vergil Ortiz. Would be a good fight though. Ennis is a well schooled Philly fighter not saying Ortiz is not well schooled but I see more holes in him.
Ennis loses to Madrimov and Bohachuk. Nothing I've seen from Ennis tells me otherwise. The only thing he has going for him is his power, which isn't all that impressive and will in all likelihood be even less so at 154.
I think he will be more explosive at 154 and 160 because he is clearly draining himself to make 147 pounds then when he fights under IBF rehydration rules he is still a bit compromised as was Ortiz at 147. Should be a good fight though.
He should not be offering his chin up to anyone to get a good crack at it. Call me old fashioned but I am from the boxing school that says the best chin is the one you can’t hit or crack.
I only saw first few rounds and realized Stanionis was going to lose. He either gave up or was just out of his league. He was letting Boots dictate pace of the fight which obviously doesnt work for high pressure fights. Anyhow, I was unimpressed by Boots also. There's nobody at WW that excites me, including Stanionis who I picked/wanted to win by decision. Maybe Norman Jr? All the fights are at 154 right now and, as is usually the case, Boots wants nothing to do w 154...the same as he wanted nothing to do w Crawford, Vergil Ortiz, or Norman Jr. Ortiz stops Ennis from what Ive seen. But that's Ortiz today. Ortiz is putting himself in tough fights now so dont be surprised if Ennis fights Ortiz in 2-3 years after Ortiz been through some wars....
Come on now we can’t start making excuses for Ortiz if he loses to Boots Ennis. Ennis clearly wants to unify and clean up Welterweight before he moves and in my view he will only be better when he moves up in weight.
Ennis passed on unification w Bud and Norman Jr so pls stfu with that nonsense. Boots looking for least resistance which is why he keeps on fighting bums and avoiding remotely real fights
Sadly I agree with part of this. If ennis had trouble with Karen, I see Madrimov beating him. I think Bohachuk style is easier for him though and he’d win that
