"I think this was it. At 41 years old and after 27 years of boxing it's maybe the best to save a couple of brain cells for the post-career life." Enjoy your retirement, champ. This content is protected This content is protected
41 years old, got brutally KO´d twice in the span of 10 months, got caught taking PED´s, and last fought almost two years ago - yea, it´s a good idea to retire. He had a decent run, all things considered. Shame that injuries and managerial issues derailed his career, but it is what it is.
He was never the same after he tore his shoulder. He was a legit savage puncher with his right hand before that injury and was on his way to securing a big fight. I don't think his Chin was up to the task regardless but we won't ever know how good he could have been. I suspect he could have played spoiler had he not tore the shoulder.
He had already shown his ceiling in the Chisora fight. He looked like he was headed to the top 5 before that.
The shoulder injury happened before the Chisora fight, and he injured it again during the fight. Helenius needed reconstructive surgery after the fight. After that he became a part time boxer and was forced to go back to a regular job. It was reported that it wasn´t until 2018 that his shoulder finally stopped bothering him, and it shows in his performances.
I still appreciate him for ending the Kownacki hype train, and then they ran it back again like it was mistake that he won. Hope he enjoys his retirement.
I heard about the shoulder after the fight. I’m seeing conflicting reports about how much it affected his performance in the Chisora fight.
The surgery happened shortly after the Chisora fight, so it´s fair to assume that it played into his performance.
