Everything? That's just not true Olu

I think he is really good but your doing Ortiz a real disservice by claiming that

I have no doubt he'll win at least 1 belt at 154

I'm not comparing him to Crawford here, I'm literally just talking about Boots
I don't need to compare stats to see he needs to tighten up

If your stats say Crawford may be similar, then is also say that of him too
Personally I've seen better all round talent from Crawford including defending
Obviously neither are or will ever be a Mayweather here in that department

But you'll never convince me his defence is good, not based on what I've seen

That's fine, he cleans 154 regardless. I don't have to convince u, Boots will. Villa couldn't hurt him with his 95% KO ratio. When someone takes so many shots and keep composure it's should be a question of his chin, not just his defense

No I don’t think so at all. Ortiz is good just not special. Also my investigations indicate that he may be lacking in the intangibles.

Look at that sparring, it's 50/50 with both guys landing cleanly. If you watch that video you can't tell who is who. Be honest, Boots defence is not good. There's nothing subtle or skilled in any aspect of his boxing game. He's athletic, that's it. Boots has okay defence when he's focused just on that. He can't combine offence and defence without getting caught flush in between while he is thinking or admiring. Where are his feints, counter punches, traps etc.? He is simply an average at best fighter with excellent athleticism. Even if his chin is solid sparring guys his size there's a difference with the smaller gloves in an actual fight against the top dogs at 154. He has been buzzed in his last couple of fights against relatively light punching 147 fighters. There are no elite fighters that take clean flush punches like Boots when nothing is happening. He's a Jared Anderson level fighter.

I agree with alot of this but the Jared Anderson comparison is absurd

Boots has the 'Amir Khan effect' where the shots he does get caught with are sudden flush shots due to glaring defensive flaws. Dropping his rear hand when jabbing / hooking, switching stances with his hands down, exiting with a low guard etc. He is absolutely a KO waiting to happen at top level unless he seriously tightens up imo. At this moment Ortiz would likely brutally KO him in the second half.

I sure did. I'd still pick him today if I didn't know about the baby due any second. I never thought the steel cold determination of the guy from the Butaev fight would be gone. He was clearly the better boxer, the only guy landing clean punches.

I saw a video of them training together the other day. In terms of skill, talent, ceiling - exactly the same. Unwarranted hype, maybe Boots has better athleticism and mental fortitude. I bet Anderson would have been hyped up to the same extent if he was always fighting guys smaller than him. I've always been seriously unimpressed with both guys and their lack of boxing skills.

The people who picked Stanionis to expose Boots clearly have some work to do now

Boots was a very clear winner from the minute the first bell rang
People saying he gas a lack of boxing ability have to be after a reaction

I think Ortiz would beat him up though, that's a 50 50 for me

Don't have any work to do whatsoever. No one knew he was going to quit. Boots looked as lacking as ever. There is nothing to expose, he has already been exposed as limited for a while now.

You made this statement and then immediately sounded like a Boxer Fan not a Boxing Fan.

Yes, Ennis rolls and slips a lot of punches, but he also catches A LOT of punches head on. Trying to tell the world that he doesn't makes you exactly what you came to this conversation to point out. He was hit point blank vs Dulorme, Villa, Karen, Lipinets, & Stanionis. Took those hits in stride...... But what happens when someone his natural size hits him like that, often. He's not going to walk down the elite middleweights. Not while getting hit like that because he consistently drops his lead hand after combinations.

He has a lot of flaws that boxing fans point out. It doesn't mean we hate him and/or are looking to see him fail. It just to combat the Hype that you Ennis Diehards keep pushing as if he's arrived already. He's NOT the next Roy Jones Jr....(just one comparison that was thrown out there). Once he's done with these little guys at 147, hopefully we'll be able to see what he can actually do vs guys his weight.

This makes me think about how much Sam Eggington gets hit......
