I mean is he really so great a two handed puncher? His hooks came from behind his head at times… it’s not up for discussion Joe Louis is the greatest two handed puncher at HW, comparing them honestly no one would take side with George Foreman IMO Joe Louis was spotless for everything involved with punching.

 

Take a look at how short some of those puncher are. Jesus.

 

Walcott-Charles III and Foreman-Cooney are definitely in my top 5 favorite knockouts.

 

While Foreman is my favourite HW & a great two-handed puncher, I wouldn't say he's the best. Louis & Tyson were better. They were faster, more technically sound & accurate while being able to throw every punch in the book.

Foreman was better at throwing unorthodox punches, but Tyson could be very unorthodox & Louis was a master feinter - often tricking opponents into punches they never saw or could anticipate.

 

All good points. But George still hit harder.

The man was a freak. The lead left uppercut that set up the Cooney KO is as brutal as anything ever seen in the ring. Poor Cooney was half comatose before the right hand ended him. Real nasty.

 

Isn't it funny how 'big' George wasn't really that big compared to what we are now used to. And absolute unit, but not massive, not out of shape. A solid, malevolent force...

 

George could really put them together once he got a whiff. Le Doux was extremely game but those type of shots and power behind them were simply too much.

 

Would you rather be punched for 1 round straight by Margarito with plaster hands or be suckerpunched with a Foreman lead uppercut from the man himself in the street out of nowhere?

 

The man was a devasting finisher. It was surprising how well he "could really put them together" when it was time for the fat lady to sing, as you say. The gulf between he and fellow monster puncher Shavers was immense.

 

Walcott knew exactly when Charles was going to throw that jab, look how he pulled it out of him, look at how he set that up. Really good fight to watch… pay attention to there lead feet and see what Walcott is doing it’s sly.

 

Yeah, I think some certain other observers miss the true quality of Foreman’s technical proficiencies and all important delivery system.

Foreman had incredible power but his successes weren’t just about his power.

Plenty of power punchers wouldn’t have achieved and gone as far as Foreman did - you gotta have something else going for you - and Foreman definitely did, imo.

Foreman’s accuracy against two guys who even Ali didn’t always find easy to nail clean (Frazier and Norton) - was insane.

There’s acceptable accuracy and then there’s accuracy that’s millimetre perfect - targeting the most vulnerable points perfectly.

Foreman had a nice knack for being able to connect right on the vital points.

He couldn’t miss poor old Norton’s chin toward the end - 5 heavy shots, all right on the button, and the last one catching Kenny on his way toward the canvas.

It’s a crime for anyone to underrate first career Foreman - he was a freaking beast.

Yeah, you see power punchers who when they have their man in trouble just start throwing haymakers in every direction trying to land the knockout punch.

Foreman in that situation was so targeted. It’s almost like he was that clear of mind that he was able to target the hurt opponent and land at will. It was so calculated and magnificent to see. His ability to find the mark and inflict maximum damage from minimal output is what sets him apart from everyone else. If George had you in trouble, he almost always ended you with ruthless efficiency.

 

Agree 100% Crypt and very well put. Still hard to believe that the big fella has passed. Not to be callous but I’m still very curious as to the exact cause of death - but of course the family has every right to keep that private -
