I think among modern fighters Zhang has a great guard. I like how he uses it to influence his opponent’s range. No boxing historian but as a modern fan his sticks out to me
Julio Cesar Chavez glove work was subtle but pretty elite. Blocking, parrying smothering his opponent.
Bivol is probably the best right now very hard to hit clean with his guard and even able to take on a dangerous puncher like Beterbiev without ever being hurt over 24 rounds
Not sure, maybe it's controversial - but to me, Clottey was a better defensive fighter than Quartey. His guard was tighter and his punches shorter. Quartey had other qualities that made him overall superior (That jab, power - as well as his mentality), but Clottey took that guard from Ike and made it better.
If you have to give credit to Joshua Clottey for something…. You have to admit he was good at blocking
