Post 1988 Tyson is interesting in that he never regained the combination punching and head movement of his peak. When Tommy Brooks started training him the 2000-2004 Tyson suddenly regained much of the combinations and head movement that had deserted him ( albeit effective only against inferior foes) but his desire ,will and stamina was progressively lost until by 2004 he was at best a 3 rou d fighter. Outlast 3 rounds and Tyson quits. Zhang scuffs his way to a 5 round stoppage with Tyson quitting on his stool
Zhang by KO. Tyson was too far gone at that point to do something against a quality opponent like Zhang, who hit very hard, is accurate and has very good handspeed. While I agree about the Brooks part, Tyson was not trained by Brooks during the 2002/2004 period.
Could be a vaguely interesting fight for 2-3 rounds. Zhang may struggle to land cleanly, Mike only fighting for the first 30 seconds to a minute of each round. Neither probably lands much, lots of clinching. Mike too eroded by this point to even have the energy to do anything crazy. Zhang seemingly happy to maintain a pedestrian pace. After the first few rounds it's now simply a badly shot Mike V a gassed Zhang and nothing much else happens in a snoozefest. Neither can mount much of an offensive, both reduced to occasional single shots. Probably Zhang edging it on points due to landing slightly more but also possible Mike simply quits before the end due to being disgusted by it all.
Mike Tyson was finished but I think he would have been awful for Zhang stylistically still. Just a couple of shots to the body from Tyson and Zhang's gas-tank is empty. Can see a similar affair to the Zhang V Kabayel fight.
My apologies to clarify I wasn't saying Brookes trained him the last 2 years. I meant 'When Tommy Brooks started training him"...." the 2000-2004 Tyson ' showed better head movement and combinations. It's just not phrased concisely. I made a post a few weeks ago lamenting Tyson dropping Brookes before the Lewis fight and that contributing to Tysons poor performance
